Did fandom know ahead of time that Jadzia Dax would die?

Bill Mumy joked about playing the new Dax. Imagine these two as a couple!

That's an interesting question... how would a culture like the Klingon Empire regard homosexuality?

Consider our own reaction to it... even in the days where people grew more tolerant of gays, straight men were at pains to make it very clear that they might accept gays' right to be who they were, but they weren't "like that" themselves. It was un-macho. And Klingons seem to be all about macho.

Be that as it may, I think I knew Terry Farrell was leaving. But I remember being surprised at Dax's return.

Some military cultures have been very homophobic, others have completely accepted homosexuality. I don't remember anything about how the Klingons felt.

Most of the time the Klingons culture was discussed, homosexuality was far more taboo than it is now. I remember the fallout after the same-sex kiss in "Rejoined".

I used to write about Star Trek so I guess I had more in depth knowledge, but as others have said it was known before her departure she was going.

Looking back in my archives I can see I said on 25th Jan 1998 that it looks like Farrell may not return, then confirmed the news to my newsletter subscribers on 23rd Feb 1998.
