Did Enterprise happen in this Star Trek's past?

Oh Stewey, I really did miss you. Welcome back. :D

As the new movie takes place in an alternate universe, how do you feel about 'Enterprise' being in the past of this new universe, and not the past of the regular TOS/TNG/DS9/VOY one?

Cheers Timofnine, thanks for the welcome. :)

To answer your question, I think that there are various attempts within that show to show it being part of the proper TOS/TNG/DS9/VOY universe, the most notable example being the final episode. Because of this mess, I can't see it being part of this new universe either.

Without references to Enterprise, then I think I would be a lot more accepting of this new universe because I really want to like this universe.

Don't forget about the ratings. Quality always correlates positively with audience size. ;)

Thats isn't allways the case, Big Brother and (equally horrible clones) and friends are just two of many many exceptions. And DS9 being a very large example of the opposite.

It was called Star Trek. It was on TV. I liked it. Therefore, it's canon. Only those who fail to recognize what is canon aren't canon. I'm afraid I can no longer acknowledge such non-canonic drivel. Yes, I made that word up. Now it's canon, too.

Other fanbases can accept differing iterations of their universe. Casino Royale isn't regarded as the first in a new series, but the 21st Bond film. Most casuals probably didn't know or care that it was a reboot. When Trek XI hits in May, its canon, folks. Like it or not.

And yes, Threshold and These Are The Voyages are canon, too. Sadly :(

Like I have said before. If it's live action and made by PARAMOUNT it's CANON!:D Even TATV & Threshold:(

I recently had an epipheny: STXI is not a prequel to TOS; it's a sequel to ENT. Perhaps the better question to ask is: Will TOS happen in ENT's future? Of course the answer is yes. We can close this thread now. Mods? are you there??

Guess this is as good a time as any to mention the concept of time being all wibbly/wobbly/timey/wimey. ;)

Seriously, though, why are we still debating this? ENT is common to both timelines - TOS and Abrams. We've already seen it. I don't see the problem here.

And as I said, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the interesting explanations that Trek novels can come up with. (Look at how they dealt with TATV!) They'll think of things we can't even imagine right now.

Thought for today: if ENT is canon and unchanged (it wasn't the best series but I have no problem with that), then Dr Soong was alive, and if Soong was alive, then there will be eventually smooth forehead Klingons and, later still, Data.

Wonder where that will go in the reimagined TNG? :)

Threshold is a headache for other reasons. The writers themselves admitted they messed up the episode entirely and stated that the events of the episode "did not happen". If they specifically declared the episode non-canon then where do we stand on that one?

They still consider TATV canon though, but it has the benefit of being a 200 year old historical recreation that may be very incorrect to the actual events. Inconsistencies are still irritating but in this case can be waved away.

What I'm wondering though is that if the Federation has been altered will the Temporal Cold War still happen? Enterprise may have happened in both universes past but the altered timeline in XI may be spared the TCW leaving the Enterprise era "cleaner" of changes in its universe.

Then theres the issue of the Borg, due to what we learn in Destiny if the Enterprise era is altered the Borg may not exist in this new universe either. The event was said to be predestined so they probably do.

Makes one wonder if an historic event/disaster like the Xindi probe attack in 2153 will get mentioned when Nero's ship attacks Earth in the new movie. I mean, this is the first major attack on the planet chronologically speaking since then unless you conjecture that the Earth-Romulan War reached our own solar system at one point or another and even Earth itself(for which there is no canonical evidence). The Xindi attack happens less than a century before Nero pops into the 23rd century with the Narada. An event like that that wiped seven million people off the globe would be something most people would think about.
