Did Da Vinci Smell?

They should have included more smell comments in Star Trek. We did learn in ENT that most Vulcans smell of dust.

AngentCoop I think you're onto something there. I see the sterile super future as doing away with the earthiness of human smells and doing it rather easily with a quick hypospray. I mean if being mutated into a massive spider is fixable then body odours certainly are.

How do holodecks simulate smell, anyway? How does light and forcefields interact with your membranes?

They say it's light and forcefields in the show but they keep having it be capable of things that shouldn't work for. Like, Neelix's holographic lungs shouldn't have been able to metabolize oxygen.

Riker said in the TNG pilot that Holodecks also use regular replicated matter like what comes out of the Replicator, which is how they are able to eat food on the holodeck.

The can replicate smell, even if they can't resequence photons to make smell.

The holographic lungs were probably more line a pulmanory bypass machine than actual lungs.

I doubt the holo-DaVinci smelled anything like the real one did.

While I admit I find it rather disgusting that people didn't used to bathe, this is easy to dismiss. It's just not important to the program.

%50 of water used to have been riddled with plague.

How many penises would you had have been willing to lose to cleanliness?

A few years back, there, I had a girlfriend who informed me about how The Perfume Industry was working with the Tech Industry to come out with some kind of a small machine you'd plug into your computer which would combine scents so you could smell perfumes over The Internet, basically. My first reaction was to speculate about the kind of viruses hackers would use to hit The Unsuspecting with noxious stinkbombs using this device. Smells are probably produced in the Holodeck in a similar manner. Just imagine the holographic vengeance Seska could've had from beyond the grave, had she tried to stink out Tuvok and Paris. Or that lonely outpost woman, when she switched holographic gears from Kim to Tuvok and the Vulcan ended up rejecting her ...

Would they flood the room with boner catnip so that you need more porn, or boner suppressant so that you can 'enjoy' porn for days longer?

Yoda landed a massive starship into the swap.

Sure it sunk, but the seals held.

It's like a five star hotel 20 feet under his hovel.

He fought the darkness in that cave with happy thoughts?

Timothy Zhan said that a Sith had been murdered there a while back, and that the saturation of darkness there cancelled out his light side, zero sum, for anyone probing the force to find him.

Something equally as devastating must have happened on Tattoine to mask what Obi Wan was up to.

Well, there has to be some explanation as to why Obi-Wan thought it was a good idea to go into hiding with Anakin's son on Anakin's home planet. And placing Anakin's son in the care of Anakin's only known living relatives. And not changing Anakin's son's distinctive last name. And not changing his own distinctive last name.

Master of espionage is Obi-Wan Kenobi.
