Did CBS Steal the Tardigrade Idea?

The guy not only got bad advice, it's put his entire life at risk. [Edit: Not giving anyone any silly ideas]

You are right. It is very possible that should his lawyer ever file proper papers and CBS gets served that CBS may decide to countersue him. They've done it before on copyright cases. I remember one where I guy sued CBS saying they used a photo of his without permission and they found a time where he posted a picture from gunsmoke year and years ago and countersued him for that.

I just remembered that a while back I saw the trailer for this game and some guy said the game creator stole the idea from DSC. I politely but firmly told him that was impossible for someone to steal from a series that hadn't even aired yet.

I don't think the same few people spamming snide remarks in every topic about Discovery constitutes "discussion".

If anything, it discourages those who actually do want to engage in discussion from ever coming here.
Back on topic.

Even if they did steal it, does it matter? I don't think it is going to shift the lines on who does and doesn't like the show. It also isn't going to lead to its demise.

You're the poster child of your brigade. Maybe you should make your message a little clearer?

This is a question that goes to damages. I'm sure that's outlined in the lawsuit, but that is the plaintiff's interpretation which of course is biased.

I don't think there is any chance of the human characters being deemed as copywrite violations, they're just to generic. So that leaves the space faring tartigrade. We see Ripper in space in exactly one very short scene. I just don't see that as being worth that much in the event the case were to go to trial and a plaintiff verdict returned. This is another reason I think the case will settle pretty promptly, all things being equal.

I owe @BillJ an apology then, as I've clearly misread him as an ultraconservative so-and-so that was representative of the trolls that plague almost every discussion surrounding this series.

Yes you do and yes you have.

I don't always agree with @BillJ but he's generally pretty reasoned in his critique of the show. I'm not sure what's worse DSC haters who call all of it's fans SJW's or DSC fanbois who label every detractor as an ultraconservative troll.

For the record, I love Discovery, but it's far from perfect and there are definite areas where it needs to improve in season 2.
