Did anyone submit a script?

I did.

It was called "Closer Than Sisters, And Further Away". Basic outline: Q comes aboard to cause chaos and confusion, the crew mock him, and in a fit of pique, he hurls them into an alt.universe, where a more powerful Borg had captured the alt.Voyager and incorporated the ship into a cube, and converted Janeway into a Borg drone, along with the rest of the crew. Meanwhile a piece of the Borg ship, embedded in the hull after a battle, assimilates a crewman, and sends out a tentacle to snake into the ship and begin converting it.

The core of the episode was Seven and Janeway meeting their Borg selves (alt.7 was even more Borg) and getting them to fight against it. Also had a bit I liked writing that this advanced Borg knew how to capture Q lifeforms, so just when Q thought he could only be seen by Janeway, her counterpart grabbed him bu the throat and told him he would be assimilated.

Now I can take no credit for what was done later, but...

This was written just after the arrival of 7 of 9 was announced, or certainly early in that season. Long before a Borg Janeway was announced. Also, there was a scene in Enterprise where a mad tentacle tried to take over the ship, and I was all "Hey, that seems familiar!"

So, on the strength of that, my very first full-length script I ever wrote, I was invited to pitch ideas to them, and during the remaining seasons I would intermittently talk with staff writer Rafe Green about ideas. One notable one was the idea of an automated space station that could repair the ship for them. To be fair, if they recycled my idea, they took it in the opposite direction to what I had in mind (my station was benevolent, their malevolent).

There were some good ideas, I'm thinking of recycling them into other stories. Never quite got there of course - they said the stuff I had was either "not a direction they wanted to go" or "too close to something we're already doing" but were always positive and encouraging.

Oh, and I wanted to write a VOY movie. Adm. Janeway has to take the ol' ship out to rescue Bashir and Chakotay who are on an undercover mission beyond Federation borders, and recruits Kira Nerys as her First Officer. (Spoilers: Chuckles doesn't make it.)

I would love reading this script! :-D can we still read it and if yes, were? :-)

Love your post, Lynx, even if I don't know Marooned and Her Klingon Soul! :-)
And the, what an imagination about the names (Doctor Drools, Ensign Fjuk or Commander Iffy Boatrace! ;-)

I have a question, maybe stupid but could Chakotay's spirit guide be compared to the famous 6th sense or instinct which most humans are endowed but they do not know still use it wisely?
I think those names are childish and insulting to the characters in the new novels. Some wonderful new characters have been introduced and are well written and intersting. There's no reason to trash them and especially the writer (calling her brainwashed) just because the booksa aren't all about season 1 kes. But that's just my opinion

I actually stole the name Iffy Boatrace from something that the Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson wrote, I can't remember if it was some short novel or so. I haven't read it.

Otherwise I do have a talent for coming up with strange names.

In this case, I couldn't remember the names of all the new characters who seem to have invaded the Voyager books so I had to make something up.

Anyway, I would prefer that they had kept the whole old gang on board the ship.

If you read the books you would know their names ;)

There aren't that many

I will be very dissapointed if Doctor Drools isn't among them. ;)
Eh it doesn't matter does it? I KNOW you're never going to read them, just like i KNOW you're never going to watch the rest of Voyager (yeah i know "i don't want to buy the dvds" but you could watch if you wanted to for a few dollars on a number of streaming services). It's not a big deal, just a tv show. but you're really depriving yourself of, in my opinion, some amazing stories and a handful of really wonderfully well developed new chatacters

Don't be so negative and distrusting.
I might surprise you one day! :)
I'm full of surprises, you know.

I pitched to VOYAGER a couple of times, but never sealed the deal. I'm reluctant to talk about my pitches too much for fear of it coming off as sour grapes: "Look at the brilliant ideas they rejected!" :)

Meanwhile, though, I've managed to rework a lot of those pitches into short stories and novellas. Waste not, want not!

For example: "Miasma" started out as a VOYAGER pitch starring Tuvok and Chakotay, which I later turned into a TOS ebook starring Spock and McCoy.

@Ghislaine H. B. BRAEME, @Catarina and anyone else interested, I've found the script I submitted, which got me a foot in the door. PM me an email address, as I don't have a drop box or anything similar.

As trust is a difficult thing to earn in these trying times, I would suggest setting up a one-off use email account instead of your regular one. I should also point out that, unless you live in Australia, I'm more than likely half a world away from you.

Just going through correcting some spelling errors, but leaving it untouched besides that. It was literally the first longform script I wrote, after teaching myself how to, and I think it stands up okay. Also note it was written in early 1998, before I'd even seen an ep of VOY with Seven (weren't shown here until '99) , and I was going off what I could find on my (dialup) net. So before Seven evolved, and long before Endgame.

I would have loved to see "The Black Shore" as a two-part episodes.

"The Black Shore" is without doubt the best Voyager story ever, including all TV episodes, all books and my own splendid Kes stories! :techman:

To be honest, your constant negative rambling doesn't really encourage me to watch or read them. :(

Lol, I've only been positive about them. I think the last seasons of Voyager and the new books are great.
OK for you if you like them.

My opinion about these items are somewhat different, mostly because that something important for me is missing in them.

Yeah i know, kes isn't in them. I think it's a shame you're boycotting the series because she's not there but whatever makes you happy
