Did anyone submit a script?

Better to have submitted and been rejected, than to have never submitted at all.

I did query a paperback story where a splinter group was blocking a planet’s entry to the federation by means of terror, and Bones fell in love with a young Klingon fugitive called L’vnda. Unfortunately, they
weren’t taking unsolicited manuscripts at that time, and it was shit.
You're absolutely right. At least I tried and can therefore look into a mirror without being ashamed of myself.

In fact, I actually tried to make my story a paperback story too but they didn't want it, most likely because the events in my story wasn't exactly compatible to "canon".

I don’t know about shame, but that look of disappointment on my reflection’s face. ‘That could have been you’ it seems to say.

Schools need to spend more time on this message. Seize the day and all that.

Could any of it be salvaged or reworked?

I never got on with Kes. Her character was described in Star Trek mag as having a lifespan of less than ten years so had a different perspective and attitude to life. I was expecting more of a mayfly character, out to saviour life while she could, not pissing about with Neelix, hydroponics and sickbay. But anyway, the character’s last episode didn’t do her justice. It was Cold Fire that did turn me on to the character, when she saw beneath the subatomic and Tuvok contradicted her. I’d have happily seen more of that.

"Cold Fire" is my favorite Voyager episode, followed by "Persistence Of Vision", "Caretaker", "Warlord" and "Basics".

I never liked the short lifespan because it was ridiculous. A species with such a short lifespan could only develope into primates. It also limited the character.

I guess that they came up with that and the "Ocampa only have one child" stupidity because they were over-eager in coming up with something new.

When they realized that it was stupid and didn't work, they just kept on going as "Shhh, the viewers won't notice".

Anyway, it took me five minutes of writing to get rid of the short lifespan stuff and one minute to erase the damage made to the character in that s**t episode in season 6. :techman:

As for her work in sickbay it was OK, mainly because of the interaction between her and The Doctor but it was also a bit limitating for the character. She should have been promoted to counselor in season 3.

As for her relationship with Neelix, it was also OK from the start but it was obvious that it wouldn't last. However, the break-up between them should have occurred already in season 2 and taken place over 2-3 episodes and not that crappy break-up we had to watch in "Warlord".

I didn’t submit them but I wrote a couple for my own amusement. I was < 18 at the time so I couldn’t submit them for legal reasons anyway.

You were told by an admin to remove that offensive signature.

Do so.

A shorter lifespan would mean they would actually evolve quicker because changes happen from generation to generation. Shorter lifespan means more changes can happen. You should research how evolution actuly works.

I did.

It was called "Closer Than Sisters, And Further Away". Basic outline: Q comes aboard to cause chaos and confusion, the crew mock him, and in a fit of pique, he hurls them into an alt.universe, where a more powerful Borg had captured the alt.Voyager and incorporated the ship into a cube, and converted Janeway into a Borg drone, along with the rest of the crew. Meanwhile a piece of the Borg ship, embedded in the hull after a battle, assimilates a crewman, and sends out a tentacle to snake into the ship and begin converting it.

The core of the episode was Seven and Janeway meeting their Borg selves (alt.7 was even more Borg) and getting them to fight against it. Also had a bit I liked writing that this advanced Borg knew how to capture Q lifeforms, so just when Q thought he could only be seen by Janeway, her counterpart grabbed him bu the throat and told him he would be assimilated.

Now I can take no credit for what was done later, but...

This was written just after the arrival of 7 of 9 was announced, or certainly early in that season. Long before a Borg Janeway was announced. Also, there was a scene in Enterprise where a mad tentacle tried to take over the ship, and I was all "Hey, that seems familiar!"

So, on the strength of that, my very first full-length script I ever wrote, I was invited to pitch ideas to them, and during the remaining seasons I would intermittently talk with staff writer Rafe Green about ideas. One notable one was the idea of an automated space station that could repair the ship for them. To be fair, if they recycled my idea, they took it in the opposite direction to what I had in mind (my station was benevolent, their malevolent).

There were some good ideas, I'm thinking of recycling them into other stories. Never quite got there of course - they said the stuff I had was either "not a direction they wanted to go" or "too close to something we're already doing" but were always positive and encouraging.

Oh, and I wanted to write a VOY movie. Adm. Janeway has to take the ol' ship out to rescue Bashir and Chakotay who are on an undercover mission beyond Federation borders, and recruits Kira Nerys as her First Officer. (Spoilers: Chuckles doesn't make it.)

So that's something i thought about. What if someone liked part of your idea and incorporated it into a script. Do they still have to give credit or can they claim it was different enough not to credit anyone

Not really, they can, in these cases, claim 'simultaneous creation' or similar. I sure didn't lose any sleep over it.

If non-solicited scripts are ever accepted for STAR TREK again, I'd rather submit story outlines, to be honest. A script is very involved, just in the way it's formatted and that's too much time to devote to it, when there's no good end in sight for it. But I think it's cool that -- during Voyager's run, at least -- a fan could get involved in the show in such an Ernest & Meaningful manner ...
I think TNG and DS9 occasionally accepted spec-scripts as well. TNG had the writers strike in S2 so it bought a lot of spec scripts, if i recall correctly.

I don't want to rewrite it or change anything. I'm too happy with it as it is.

I could probably nitpick and change some minor details which might be contradicting or contain small errors. I could possibly make it longer or more detailed but basically it would be the same with the same events and so.

In fact, I didn't have the heart to change the end of the story even if the following story I wrote actually describes an alternate end for the first story. It would have been......sort of blasphemy.

The new voyager books are really good
I'm not too happy about them because I want to read of the real Voyager crew: Janeway, Chakotay, Paris, Torres, Tuvok, Kim, Kes, Neelix, The Doctor and yes I can stand reading about Seven as well if all the other main characters are there.

I'm not that interested in having to read about, let's say Doctor Drools, Ensign Fjuk or Commander Iffy Boatrace or whatever if those characters are actually replacing some of the old favorites. In that case I rather read a New Frontier type of book with mostly new characters.

I guess you haven't even skimmed a summary. ALL of the voyager characters are in the books. ALL OF THEM

That would be a spoiler. Read the books and you'll find out.
Well,it's a matter of time and money.

I'm not sure if I want to spend a lot of time and money on let's say 7-8 books to read page after page about let's say Doctor Drools, Ensign Fjuk or Commander Iffy Boatrace or whatever while Kes, Neelix and Tuvok might show up on two or three pages each of them. And maybe not in a way which I want. Or to be precise, I don't want to read anything about any "Fury" mumbo-jumbo or so.

In that case, I rather re-read "The Black Shore", "Marooned" or "Her Klingon Soul" for the umpteenth time.
Or finish one of the 4-5 own stories which I have in the can! :)

Well you seem to have your mind set on your own nonsense, whatever

Yes, there are a few new characters (who are actually very interesting)

Nonsense?

I'm not the one who comes up with nonsense. I'm 100% serious in everything I do.

Love your post, Lynx, even if I don't know Marooned and Her Klingon Soul! :-)
And the, what an imagination about the names (Doctor Drools, Ensign Fjuk or Commander Iffy Boatrace! ;-)

I have a question, maybe stupid but could Chakotay's spirit guide be compared to the famous 6th sense or instinct which most humans are endowed but they do not know still use it wisely?
