Did anyone else wish the movie was "longer"?

Yes, I wanted more.. and a longer movie.

More scenes with McCoy, Spock and Kirk would have been good. More of Kirk as 'actual' captain... their first adventure as the crew we remember.. but that's what sequels are for.

I am looking forward to the next one!

Yeah, the whole movie is essentially a prologue and I really wanted see the next chapter... I guess I'll have to wait for that untill 2011 or even 2012.
That sucks. :sigh:

Like anything you love you wish there was more of it to love. I would have sat through a six hour movie. (NO TMP jokes please :rommie:)

I've sat through the movie for over 27 hours. The story always ends the same way, but it's always just as enjoyable!

I would have like it to be 2:30, and the extra 30 min put primarily into 2 things:

1 - the Nero backstory, what happened to him in the 25 year gap, the Rura Penthe stuff, the rebuilding of the Narada;

2 - more of the Prime U backstory during the Kirk-OldSpock mindmeld.

I'm telling you this movie is like chinese food...you're full for awhile but soon you need another plate.

That's a really good way of putting it!

In any entertainment, you want to leave them wanting more. "Star Trek" achieves that wonderfully, so I'll have to say that the running time for this film is spot-on.

Thanks! Now I know this is going to start an uproar...but here I go. I mean that Chinese food analogy in both a good and a bad way. :wtf: Good: It was an enjoyable movie and after you're done viewing you feel like you want more.
Bad: It was an enjoyable movie but also I felt a little empty after it too...I want a more substantial film.
So I like the movie....if the sequel is how I want it to be then I can bump it up to me loving nuTrek...if the sequel sucks then I'm done.

No uproar here. I loved the movie; it did what it had to do, which was bring together our crew. However, I wish the same as you do when it comes to a deeper storyline. Again, I agree with your Chinese food analogy.

LOL thanks....but something's wrong here...I've just had 2 people in a row agree with me....:wtf: what the hell is going on? ? :lol:

No, I thought it was the perfect length. If it was any longer it would begin cutting into run times, which means less money

I would like an extended edition DVD though

I want to see what they cut out, regardless of whether it's inserted back into the movie or not.
I want a longer "Director's Cut," with the Klingon prison scenes, and Spock's birth, and all the other important story elements that were missing.

I don't want the "deleted scenes" nonsense that the "Star Trek: Nemesis" DVD had. I want a longer movie with all the important scenes present!

I think DVD audiences are more patient than theatrical audiences -- we can put the movie on Pause and go get a snack -- so, like the three-hour "Lord of the Rings" DVDs, I want a special-extended-director's-cut-edition DVD of "Star Trek XI."

But you just know Paramount is going to pull their typical double-dipping crap again, so they will release the theatrical version on DVD with deleted scenes, then in a few years, they'll release a "Director's Cut" with the scenes in the film.

How many times have they released "The Motion Picture"? Has the extended "ABC TV" cut of "Star Trek II" ever been released on DVD?

Another vote for a Director's cut with the deleted scenes intact. The brief clips in the trailers of baby Spock just fascinate me (adorable).

As far as the novelization goes (I've been listening to ZQ's narration), it appears there was quite a bit more there between Amanda and Sarek.

We know for sure that they shot:
* Amanda and Sarek holding a baby Spock.
* A confrontation with Kirk's angry uncle.
* Nero escaping from a Klingon prison.

Examples of well-done Director's Cuts include Amadeus and Blade Runner. Amadeus is an example of where the 20+ minutes extra were entire branching story threads. It wasn't just a vanity cut.

One of the complaints that has occurred with ST '09 is that people don't get what Nero was doing for 25 years and some people have been calling it a plot hole.

While these scenes might not be absolutely essential, they either contribute to an understanding of the story (and Nero really needed the prison escape scene to establish the character more), and scenes like baby Spock add an extra oomph to the imagery in the film. It would also add to the so-briefly-seen relationship between Amanda and Sarek to see them in a moment like this. The angry uncle scene might have redeemed the car scene a bit (at least giving the young Kirk actor some material to work with to help match up to the strongly sympathetic material that the young Spock actor was given).

There are some cases where deleted scenes were cut because they don't work and some are cut because of time reasons that no longer matter in today's DVD culture. DVDs should really have uncut films. I can think of a lot of films and T.V. episodes where I know of deleted scenes that were shamefully cut to a legitimate detriment of the piece (getting a hold of scripts or seeing the clips in trailers is always interesting).

Oh lord YES! to a longer movie. More Kirk & Spock, more Spock & Uhura, more McCoy & Kirk & Spock.

Also, would have been fun to see Star Fleet faces when Kirk popped up as captain of the Enterprise (who had just saved every living thing on Earth) cause ya know, the last time they saw him he was a cadet on academic suspension :)

The length for me was perfect. With movies longer than two hours, I have to get up and walk around anyway. I'm not good at sitting for long periods of time, no matter how amazing the movie.
