Did anyone else dislike...

I thought it was a great idea that thankfully didn't get overdone like the borg or time travel. Besides, "Bride of Chaotica" is one of my favorite episodes.
Seconded on both counts! I loved the Captain Proton eps. And "Bride of Chaotica!" made me laugh out loud -- it was one of VOY's very few really good comedies.

I enjoyed the CP episodes as well, especially Chaotica. Fair Haven was pretty tolerable. And I'm embarassingly confirming my 19th-century lit. nerd status by mentioning this, but...Janeway's holodeck novel actually resembled Bronte's 'Jane Eyre', it wasn't really Austen-ish. Sorry, couldn't help myself!

It wasn't a lot of fun, though. Not to say such kind of stories can't be fun adapted - Rebecca is a favourite film of mine. But VOY's stab the genre struck me as a little colourless.

It was unbelievable that a starship captain wanted to play out scenes like the Jane Eyre type holoprogram. I think they were trying to make her appear feminine in the Bun of Steel days, but it was a miserable attempt. They should have given her an interesting hobby, but they did the same thing to Archer with the water polo interest. What were they thinking?

I didn't dislike it entirely. It did have it's quirks. :) I loved the briefing room scene too..made me laugh.
Janeway: "all right, all right!!!!!! I'm a size four." Soo funny!! :)

I also liked the behind the scenes footage where RDM was talking about the CP pants he wore and how he burnt a hole in them with his rocket pack! :guffaw: That was histerical!!! ;)

I loved "Captain Proton" and couldn't get enough of it. Had Star Trek been created twenty years earlier, it would have probably looked a lot like Proton. It served nicely to playfully acknowledge the origins of sci-fi television and add a little campy fun to the show.

I have only one thing to say about this thread:

"FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!"

And now the football is put back into play with the score one-nil for the Protons.

As someone who, as a kid, watched all of the old 1930's-40's Flash Gordon serials when PBS was showing them in the 1970's and 1980's, I thought Captain Proton was a clever and well-handled addition to Voyager. They got the look, feel, and tone of those old serials right and you could tell they had fun doing it.

It worked for me, and it is not like there were a ton of CP episodes, so they didn't beat it to death.

Captain Proton was one of the shining moments of Voyager, because they showed the crew having a fun time a la TOS. I think some of the MT creators and producers got a bit to serious and self-important. CP was just a nice romp with a bit of tongue in cheek.

I also think they did a great job paying homage to the old sci-fi serials that paved the way for shows like Star Trek. I can really appreciate the nostalgia from the black and white shoot, campy sets, and wonderfully scored music. They did their homework.

The only problem was when I looked up some of those Flash Gordan videos I was a bit disappointed by 'ole Ming - he didn't seem as good as Chaotica.

I thought that it was a bit to childish for Tom to have written.
The writers of the episode did capture the essence of the old time movie serials, even to have it shown in black and white.
After all is said and done,I have to say, that I did not care for it, as I do not like camp.

Captain Proton? I mean, I like the idea as a one-shot, but I was never a fan of many of the eps with CP. I appreciate the idea of spoofing vintage, low budget sci-fi. But the program never seemed that amusing to me, just dull.
Yeah, hated it.

I liked Captain Proton more than Tom's Fair Haven program, which still ain't sayin' much, if ya think about it.

Agreed - but I still hate both. Captain Proton and Fair Haven episodes made me channel surf (they still do). When I got the episode DVDs they were the only episodes that I didn't check - mainly because I didn't really care if those episodes worked or not...

I believe the writer's original concept was to have a "Captain Proton serial" during the opening teasers, and to end them on a cliff-hanger before the opening credits. I think they were over-ruled because it would have become distracting; as if they were trying to cram another show into Voyager and that it would confuse people. So instead they fleshed out the concept into full-length episodes.

I loved the Captain Proton stuff especially The Bride Of Chaotica it was a just a fun ep. something we didn't get alot of on Voyager.

I didn't like it. I just don't know how to like something that is intentionally meant to be utter schlock. I tried to watch "Bride of Chaotica!" Really, I did. I just can't sit through it. I can't. I guess it's just not for me.

Yeah, I liked the idea of Captain Proton..however, the whole season of it was just getting old too fast.

It was hardly a whole season of it. It was in "Night," "Thirty Days," "Bride of Chaotica!" and "Shattered."
It was referenced at least a few times besides that, but not seen.
There are things on Voyager that got old, Captain Proton didn't. Had it gone on to have several more episodes dedicated to it, it probably would have though.
