I hated both the Pah-wraiths story and the Space Jesus story. And I used to like the way the Prophets were used earlier.
The only way that the Pah-wraiths could have worked would be if both the Prophets and the Pah-wraiths were just opposing fractions of the wormhole aliens and if they were both morally ambiguous or at least had credible motives, instead of the cheesy cartoonish villainy and simplistic good/evil duality. Then maybe Dukat could have made an alliance with the Pah-wraiths while he was the head of Cardassia, but only out of interest, to counterbalance the help that Sisko gets from the Prophets, and the whole thing could have tied into the Dominion story. If there had to be the Pah-wraith story in the first place.
