Did anybody see the new gaming console Alienware Alpha

They claim Alienware Alpha is the future of gaming. I don't think so. The future is Star Trek Holodeck. I cannot put a link up. Its against the rules.

Putting up a link is only against the rules if it's a hotlink. In fact, it's not okay to post an OP like yours without a link as without it the discussion can't go any further as we don't know what you're talking about. Please post a link from where you got your information or the thread will have to be closed.

Also, from what I've gleaned this subject may be better suited for the Gaming forum and not Sci & Tech.

Well I'm confused about some of the rules here. Most forums don't have rules like this. like Hotlinking and Spamming for example.

I've been on the internet for more than 20 years. Most fora have rules against hotlinking and spamming.

I'm not touching any Alienware product. Overdesigned, overpriced, underperforming stuff.

I'd rather keep building my own PCs. More performance for less money.

I worked for Dell after they had acquired Alienware, so I got to work on a significant number of them, and I can tell you they were junk.

I'm not ever gonna touch a Dell computer again either. A friend of mine bought one and Dell has the habit (or at least used to) of using custom mainboards that basically make upgrading any part of your pc a pain in the ass.
No free slots for anything. And damn, how can you possibly sell a PC with no case fan installed. Killed a video card before my friend found out.

Dell makes decent, cheap-ish IPS screens, I like those.

Funny thing about Dell: their business stuff is actually pretty good. It's not at all like the commercial/consumer-end stuff. I have no idea why it's so different. I suppose it has something to do with selling in bulk.

They're extremely hard to find, of course. But if you know people...

I actually got a small (slightly used) box for $200 that has about the same specs as the Alienware. The chip is only an i3, but it's pretty fast and the video is only 1mb of DDR3. (It's a dedicated card, even.) But it's still more than enough for what I use if for.

I've got it set up as and HTPC.

It's standard cubicle fare, so it's very plain looking, but it's very well built. The form factor is small. It fits on my TV stand. I drilled some holes in the chassis for some extra cooling, but you can't seem them. The hard drive was only 500. I eventually replaced it with a terabyte. And put in a PCIE remote receiver.

The total cost was still under $300. I've had it for over a year now, running almost constantly, and haven't had any problems.

There's no way I could find something this good (especially for the price) at a big box--and certainly not from Dell.

I have a business laptop from them also. (Got it from the same place.) It's older, but built like a shit brick house. I've dropped the thing a few times. It's fully modular and really easy to take apart to clean and upgrade. It also doesn't have those annoying extra "media" function buttons that seem to inevitably short the mobo.

I've compared it to the commercial Dell laptop--Inspiration or whatever it is--it felt like a toy compared to mine.

Really don't know why there's such a discrepancy in build quality.

This thing is nothing but a Steambox and one could easily build their own or, you know, buy a cheaper one made by somebody not Alienware.

Most forums don't forbid hotlinking and spam?? You trippin', bro.

The rule about links is simple: if you're going to make a thread including a link, you should also add some kind of comment about it. Don't just drop a link and run off. This is not an unreasonable requirement. After all, why are you starting the thread unless something about the link interested you? And how is anyone supposed to discuss if you don't say what you found interesting?

Two forums I'm on allow my post any pics i like except if they're not work safe. I can spam as long its appropriate and accurate. In other words if they're false ads i can get reported. Or I'm promoting advertisement. In other words i can talk about the product i ate or drink. Not to get posters to buy drink or eat it.

TrekBBS tells you what is and is not allowed in the FAQ, and if you're having this much trouble with the board rules, you should read it if you haven't. Seldom do any two sites have exactly the same FAQ or Terms of Service.

Wise words. The rules of TBBS are the rules of TBBS, no matter what other boards allow or do not allow, and if those rules are broken there will be consequences. As Ho Ho Homeier said, if you haven't already read the FAQs I strongly suggest you do so, and if you still have any question don't hesitate to ask any of the mods for clarification. We're not all ogres. Really. Don't ask for rule changes, though, because that won't happen.

Now let's get this thread back on topic. Any more discussion on this topic can take place via PM and not in this or any other thread in this forum.

I'm more of a troll. Not the wind-people-up-on-the-Internet kind, just the lives-under-a-bridge kind.

It's a living.

So, to get the thread back on topic, what gaming console do living-under-the-bridge trolls recommend instead of this Alienware Alpha thing?
