Dexter

Vice Admiral

I'm not a Showtime subscriber (I can't afford it) so I've had to wait for DVD to see "Dexter" -- watching the CBS chop-copies isn't an option for me, damn network censors drive me nuts -- and so I just today finished season 2.

Got a few things running through my head.

Chief amongst them, the burning question spelled out in 50 foot high letters in the Hollywood Hills, "WTF is wrong with network TV?"

More and more, I'm tuning out of the networks and into cable. Be it basic or pay. Shows like "The Shield", "Battlestar Galactica", "Dexter", even lighter fair like "Monk" are all so far superior to 98% of network shows anymore. How can their be such talent and creativity out there, and virtually none of it on the networks, without which TV never would have existed? Granted, they've since outlived their usefulness, but... how could they have dropped the ball so far?

To the topic of "Dexter" specifically, I still need time to absorb season 2 to decide which season I like better. The risks they keep taking with the exposure of his secret worry me, as if they keep doing so, eventually it will become unbelievable and tired. It already is a little hard to swallow, but not too much. People don't tend to suspect their friends are serial killers without good motive, after all.

I went back and forth to the Lila/Rita camps all through it. Lila finally went to far with the fire, and taking the kids, though. Something that also made her death by Dexter seem more justified than it would have been just for killing Doakes. Whom, as much as I hated the character, I also loved, and will miss the battles between him and Dexter. I think at the end, he even felt truly... empathetic? for Dexter. His blind distrust and hatred and disgust softened to more of a concern for justice than of just "putting down an animal" like Doakes usually strikes me as thinking.

I'm a bit bummed that I'll likely have to wait a year for season 3 to be on DVD. It doesn't even start to air until September 28th. I've considered subscribing to Showtime for the winter just for it, but, I truly can not afford such an extravagance.

Finally, if you'll excuse me for an atypical male moment: thank god for pay cable shows ability to show tits and ass!  Wish they would show off more of Deb! Rrrrrr! Though I truly did NOT need to see Keith Caradine's ass. *Shiver*

There's another thread in this forum for season two that was just posted this week, but count me as one who LOVES this show (I've only seen season one).

I love the show. I watched the first season once a week by obtaining it from the internet, then I watched all of season 2 when I found my new favorite site that allows me to watch things more quickly. ;)
