Yeah, it was obvious much earlier on that the writers were maneuvering Lila to kill Doakes, which would permit Dex to kill Lila. I was really hoping, given how obvious the plot mechanics had become, that was all a red herring and it would go down more like, Doakes kills Lila in self-defense and then someone outta the blue kills Doakes - maybe one of the Miami cops, on the mistaken assumption that the "Bay Harbor Butcher" was about to kill again, one of those snap-decision type things. It would have taken some fancy writing, but it's better than doing exactly what's expected.Doeaks' ending is one of the things that bothered me. They had created a pretty awesome point of no return situation and didn't take the easy way out by making Doakes evil, then had it all wiped out by Lila.
