Well, I noticed a few people asking this question in the other thread....

The answer is yes :p

I picked this up launch day and I would have to say that it ties in very nicely to what made the original such a great game. The world feels huge and alive. The gameplay also feels very tight. Most importantly, the story is awesome as well.

One of the best things about the game however is that it is able to incorporate alot of modern game design conventions (regenerating health for example) while still being able to hold onto the feel of the original.

Best of all, the game actually looks nice...something the original was never really able to pull off lol.

I would go out on a limb and say that anyone who is a fan of RPGs or FPSs should give the game a shot. Considering the audience of the Trek BBS I would say it is a definite must buy.

I'd say yes; but then I spent the past four years working on it as part of the core writing team, so my opinion is a little biased...

Outstanding work :p

So were you the one who put the RoboCop loving, Detective Alex Murphy in the game?

The further I get in, the more easter eggs I find. From the mentions to the previous games to Final Fantasy XXIX posters. You can tell a lot of love was put into this.

Half-Life 1 easter egg (direct quote from tram ride into Black Mesa) ;)

Whew, finally finished it, with all achievements complete. Huzzah! (Had to load up an old save to nab one I missed)

And if anyone's curious about how many Praxis points you can earn, here's my final Jensen. With maybe only a handful I missed, I fully hacked nearly everything (even if I had the code) and tried to non-lethal takedown all enemies, and always tried to get the ghost/smooth operator bonuses. So... 6 (almost 5) points short of having every ability.

And thank you for the fantastic gaming experience, James! ;)

Glad you guys are enjoying the game...

By the way, that Half-Life nod is only one of lots of refs hidden throughout the game...

Since you just finished it, Evil Twin, how long did it take you? I'm seeing a lot of people completing it rather soon after the game's come out, which makes me concerned about its length.

Well, I picked it up Tuesday afternoon, pretty much played it non-stop the rest of the weekday nights, and just about all of Saturday and Sunday (stayed up playing til around 3 AM Friday and Saturday ) and finished it after midnight on Sunday. So while it's probably not as long as the first (from what I remember, only played it once) there's plenty to keep you busy for awhile, depending on how thorough you are with exploration etc. And because I was so thorough with this first playthrough it'll probably be a long while before I do another complete playthrough, but I'll definitely revisit individual missions to try out different playstyles for fun, such as PURE ghosting by not knocking out anyone, which I did countless times with Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory's missions, or just go on a murdering rampage. :p

I've only played the original and loved it would I like this? Are there any differences between the console and pc versions?

If you loved the first one, you would probably love the second one. There seems to be fewer missions in this one than the first one, but it still has far more stuff in it than all but the most extensive RPGs. Right now I've got over 20 hours in it and I still have a a ways to go.

The feel that the original had is still alive and well in this one. With a couple of (glaring) exceptions, I felt as if I could tackle any mission any way I wanted. While playing through the game I'm already planning on how I'm going to tackle the same missions next time around.

Right now I'm playing the Xbox version. Other than graphics and keyboard/mouse I don't know of any big differences between the games.

After playing Dead Space 2, I am disappointed by the graphics in this game. The graphics are ugly. Then there is the pothering nature of the characters - they bounce alot when in the dialogue segments. The bouncing annoys me greater. And I am finding myself bored by this game. So, for me, the game is not a success.

Well my sons and I love it. I'm about a third of the way through and I just more into it as I go. Great Job, Mr. Swallow!

On of the "Easter Eggs" I noticed was more of a parody of the notorious Internet band of hackers that call themselves Anonymous. Early in the game, you'll come across a character that calls himself Anonymous X. He's wearing a hat that says "#chan" on it and this is a reference to the website that spawned the group of hackers. The Anonymous character spouts off a buch of political philosophy and economic theories that are not based in reality at all, much like the RL Anonymous group and I just had to put down my controller and laugh for a good long while. Awesome!

Great game... Should make the short list for several GOTY's this year.

One of my favorite lines of dialogue actually seems like a jab at the original. In it a hooker goes on a long monologue about all sorts of philosophical crap to her john. What's his reply? "So...how much do I owe you?"
