Destructible Environments

Destroy all Humans has a destructible environment and only when you reload that level does the city ever rebuild, so to speak. A command or whatever can be written into games like GTA where whatever buildings you might have destroyed will rebuild after a certain time or distance away from the area.

I think maybe one of the problems here though would be the extra processing time required to rebuild the destruction.

If it's rebuilt instantly as soon as a timer expires then there's not much CPU power involved--just swap the original building back in place of the destroyed one.

But given the size of the game world in the GTA games, allowing permanent alterations could be very space-prohibitive. It would definitely be cool, though. :)

there's a game I had for the gamecube called Worms 3d which has some massive and intracate maps that you could strip down to nothing

Fuck yeah! I remember the original Scorch. None of those silly textured mountains or any of that nonsense, just explodey warfare goodness.

Having recently finished "Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2" on the PS3 I have to say I did enjoy digging around the environment for items (barrels and so on). I also found a way to occasionally destroy lamps on certain boards (the steel looking ones) but I couldn't replicate it consistently.

I was actually surprised how fragile the environment in "Bioshock" is. You just back against a chair or object and it goes crashing down or breaks. Of course, that's extra fun when you use Telekinesis to take down Splicers. :)
