Destiny trilogy - speculations

Re: Destiny: What we know - major spoilers may feature

I'm looking forward to the trilogy but man, people are freaking foaming at the mouth about them. I hope no one is disappointed.

What? And deprive some of us of one of our key sources of entertainment? How dare you?

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

I must assume that's a mistake. They just did the 'jump ahead' bit and have many gaps left in those three years to pad out (no pun intended). And doing so again would place it far in advance of the rest of the series (and BD demonstrated that, for all his skills at carrying New Frontier, it's probably best not to let PAD determine the direction of the literary universe for the next few years).

Probably right that it's a mistake, but then agin, he jumps around quite a bit with that series, and doesn't seem to fill in a whole lot of the missing stuff before he gets bored and jumps again...

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

The more I read, the more I like!

I was particularly entertained by the conversation between Riker and Vale.

Looking forward to October!

Egad, Marco!

At this rate, by the time it comes out in stores, we'll be able to read it all online for free! ;)

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

I just finished reading the latest excerpt definitely the more I read of this miniseries excerpts especially the latest part with Riker and Vale is a very powerful scene. One of many for the crew and Riker and Troi. David Mack certainly got me curious to see what happens next with this Miniseries.:techman:

Well, it's a big, complex story, with lots of different things going on. We just thought that releasing a block of consecutive chapters would clear up some misconceptions about the project and give people a better sense of its actual scope.

Definitely good thinking!

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

Wow. Just wow. I think that's one of the few times I've had an emotional reaction to reading an excerpt. Maybe it's because most of that emotion comes from following Riker and Troi for over twenty years and being invested in them for that long, but that was heavy, powerful stuff. Amazing how something so...down to Earth can stand out in a trilogy that's more than likely filled with epic and sweeping plotlines.

I agree, this was a good idea. It shows that Destiny is so much more than another Borg story!

The third chapter touched me on many levels, also personally because the birth of my daughter definitely wasn`t a quick and easy matter. It will be very interesting to me to find out how this part of the story will continue.

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

If this was filmed Trek, it would have to have the budget of Lord of the Rings to do it justice, and it feels just as epic in scope, if not more so.

Because, of course, you can tell exactly what the other 2.8* books are going to be like just based on those three chapters.

* This is an estimate; I know that David has posted the wordcounts elsewhere, but I'm too busy at work to do the math. ;)

^ All I'm gonna say is, "Y'all ain't seen nothin' yet...." :)

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

Ok, so now I've read most of the first few chapters, and any worries I had about the book (which were very few to beging with) are now completely gone. Each excerpt that's been posted has just gotten better and better.

For anyone curious I just added up the page counts on Simon & Schuster's website and it comes out to 1248 pages for the whole trilogy.

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

Appears to be a nice day of reading.
