I read the first half of that Chapter 3 excerpt and stopped about halfway through when it came to the Riker and Troi segment. I decided that I didn't want to read another word of it until I got a copy of it.

I'm waiting for my actual copy because I don't want to invest myself and then have to wait several weeks to read on. I'm glad that the excerpts are released though, especially so the naysayers or those on the fence can have a preview, and hopefully it will generate more sales as a result. I can hardly wait for the first volume!!

    Sorry, what?

If people are silly enough to think that this will be a small story and not the galaxy spanning tour de force that yourself, David, KRAD and Christopher have all alluded too, I personally don't think releasing the first three chapters is a very bright idea as the nah sayers are in an exceptionally small percentage and any person with a bit of sense can gather it's a big and complex story just from the blurbs and the covers!!!!

I don't think the covers give that impression. They don't contradict it, certainly, but they could just as easily be one book for each crew, as opposed to one big story involving all three.

The covers are great but I think the main problem is that the earlier back cover descriptions don`t do the trilogy justice. If I wouldn`t know anything about the books except these back cover descriptions, I wouldn`t be very tempted to buy them.

SciFiChick.com has posted its review of Gods of Night, the first volume in my swiftly approaching Star Trek Destiny trilogy. It's also the first public review of the book.

    The money quote:
Gods of Night contains everything great about Star Trek — advanced technology, intrigue, drama, relationships, danger, action, mystery, aliens, time travel, and blowing stuff up. Ending in a mild cliffhanger, readers will want to pick up the next, Mere Mortals, as soon as possible. With an exciting story, wonderful characters, and insurmountable odds to overcome, this is a trilogy no Trek fan will want to miss.

What would have been nice for the covers is if they were like the covers for the Avatar duology, the Mission Gamma quadrilogy or those two New Frontier novels, where they work as standalone covers but if you line them up in publication order it all comes together as one big cover.

^ The word you're thinking of is "triptych." That approach was discussed but eventually was not chosen. I don't know why.

Still, there is at least one unifying element to all three covers...

Well, nice to know it was at least discussed :) I'm sure there was a good reason for not doing it, but it would've been nice.

Will we be getting annotations and stuff on your website once the book's out? Along with 'casting' for some of the new characters, perhaps?

Would that be all of the main head shots being Starfleet captains! only kidding :rommie:

It would have to be the Captain of Columbia right?

Alas, probably not. I haven't really had time to do annotations for any of my books since Warpath.

Indeed. The seemingly secondary figure on each cover is, in fact, the unifying element.

Ok, so it is Hernandez on all three. I was pretty sure it was her on the first one, but I wasn't as sure about the other two.

It's because we'd just done a triptych with Terok Nor and recently with Crucible. Generally, I try to repeat cover concepts as little as possible.

Does that mean that the next NF book won`t have a sword on the cover? :)

You sure did enjoy it a lot more then I did. I think captcalhoun owes every one of us 3 minutes 11 seconds of his life to us for that link.
