Destiny trilogy - speculations

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

I haven't picked up a Trek novel in a few years... Based on what I've read from the blurbs, David Mack and Destiny might just change that.

Dave, if I decide to do just that, is there any required/recommended reading for the trilogy? That might have been answered before, but I really don't feel like sifting through 32 pages to find it.

short answer: no.

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

^ Slightly longer answer: Some of the newer characters and their relationships might make more sense if you read the Next Generation novel Greater Than the Sum by Christopher L. Bennett, and the Titan novels Orion's Hounds, also by Mr. Bennett, and Sword of Damocles, by Geoffrey Thorne.

That said, as with most Star Trek novels, I try to provide all the relevant backstory you would need to know in the texts of my books. If you haven't read the books I mentioned above, don't worry — you'll still be able to follow what's going on.

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

^ Orion's Hounds and Sword Of Damocles are phenomenal books, though, and most people seemed to really love Greater Than The Sum too (one of the characters got on my nerves a bit, but I'm very much not representative of most of the reviews on here), so I'd recommend reading those three books anyway. Greater Than The Sum also has lots of summary and tying together in it of the previous few TNG novels, so that might be helpful too.

But again, it's absolutely not necessary; if you're really deciding to jump in, reading those three will heighten the experience, but not critically. Destiny is going to be pretty great either way, I'm sure.

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

So what do you want Dayton3? A big pitched battle between the Borg and Starfleet that the Federation win through military power and tactics? Frankly if that's how it turns out I might even be a bit disappointed given that it makes no sense.

Yes that is what I would like to see.

Fair enough. That sounds pretty dull to me but I can see where you're coming from. I just don't feel that that sort of militaristic solution really fits Star Trek but clearly we disagree there.
Second that. I buy almost all of the Trek lit released, but absolutely would not bother with something like that.

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

Wow, that is awsome, just like the other two. So would anybody be willing to confirm whether or not these are the official back cover blurbs or not?

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

TrekMovie has blurbs, too. I think they're official, 'cuz they're from the David Mack site.

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

Sweet! I'm glad to know we finally have all the usual pre-release info on Destiny. Now I can officially say that these books are gonna KICK ASS!!

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

So...this blackhaired girl who is on the covers for part two and three is gonna play an important role, I take it?

Is it someone we know? And is she playing a harp on that Lost Souls cover? Only without the harp?

I think she's the theme on all the covers. Isn't she also the one covering her eyes on the first cover.

I'm pretty sure that is Captain Erika Hernandez from Columbia.

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

The first two books look great, but it looks like there is something wrong with Riker's face in the third cover. Still can't wait for this trilogy.

Re: Destiny trilogy - pretty heavy spoilers

As shown on Trekweb and memory Beta, the Lost Souls-Cover:

Honestly, it looks a bit strange. The woman looks like aiming with an imaginary rifle , Riker looks like he hasn't had his Early-morning-coffee and what the hell are those things arranged around the (I presume) Caeliar-City? The covers for Book 1 and 2 looked much better, imo. But after all, it's the contents that counts, not the packaging ;)
