Destiny omnibus

^ I fully expect it to be released in eBook format after the trade paperback is published. I'm not sure why it would be delayed, but it's possible they want to give the trade edition time to sell before they add the eBook edition. It might also just be an oversight.

Since we're talking about it anyhow, mind if I ask what the omnibus will include that the separate books do not, if anything?

Thanks!

No significant amount of new material has been added. However, I have done some editing, and I've polished up some of the text from the original editions.

As I've joked elsewhere, the omnibus edition will be 80% less Stygian and have 70% fewer smirks, smiles, and grins. It will also be 50% less "brooding". :)

Or they may have just decided that the individual books are good enough. After all, these are the same brilliant minds who think that people will pay more for ebooks than for print copies...

Thanks, hopefully it will be released soon.

Someone noticed some medical inaccuracy concerning childbirth back when the Destiny books first appeared. Any chance those lines of text will be tweaked for the omnibus?

I'm about 65% though Lost Souls and no one has given birth yet that I recall. Please watch the spoilers!

I don't recall the point in question, so the answer would be no, I made no changes relevant to that.

Dave, for those of us who own the trilogy and don't necessarily wish to double-dip, is there any chance the revisions might be available online somewhere for review?

Thanks!

^ No. As I've said before, I did a lot of fine-tuning, and adjusted some word choices. There were perhaps one or two places in the entire 305,000-word trilogy where I changed an entire sentence. I have no intention of annotating all those picayune edits online.

My apologies, Dave - it was not a childbirth issue. It's on the main Destiny review thread - around page 7 - that it came up. At the time you said:

"Only after reading the logical refutations of Troi's medical crisis and now Allyn's followup, I realize that instead of making this a strictly medical/scientific issue, I should have made it an ethical issue that examined the gray areas related to the Federation's aversion to genetic engineering on already-existing organisms."

So although I'm not sure it was an inaccuracy by present-day medicine, it looks like it wouldn't have been that tough to tweak, either.

In the omnibus the Caeliar, previously played by prosthetic-wearing actors, will now be replaced by CGI versions that will be argued over by fans for years to come.

Ha, I tried to upvote/"like" your comment before I realized I'm on neither Reddit nor Facebook!

Actually, that would have been a huge pain in the ass to change; it would have entailed rewriting entire sections, which was not something I had the time or inclination to do.

Hm, this makes me wonder which version to read when I finally get around to it - the original one everybody around these parts read and based their opinion on, or the revised edition.

Somehow different versions make me queasy :).
