Destiny - Let's Roll!

Made it through the "main" story missions, entertaining stuff so far. Looking forward to playing the new strike now.

Looks solid so far, of course not quite as substantial as TTK. The only thing I "miss" right now is the sense of progression* you get from actually increasing in character level, not just light level.

*call it the New Expansion Smell Feeling

Ok, it's a fun shooter...
Level 13 Titan, unlocked the moon and i have a nice scout rifle that works against wizards and captains with shields...
Might try the other 2 classes until level 6 or so to see which i like best...

yeah, definitely check out the other classes - if you get really into it, you'll have one of each anyway at some point ;)

You'll likely find yourself favouring one class over the other and tend to use that one more than the others.

So, Destiny 2 might get a PC version...

Destiny 2, the currently unannounced 2017 sequel to Destiny, is coming to PC in addition to Xbox One and PS4, according to several sources. The first game was exclusive to consoles, much to the dismay of Destiny fans with beefy computers. We also hear that Bungie aims to make Destiny 2 feel like an entirely new game rather than a Taken King-style expansion—even if that means leaving old characters behind.

The PC rumor first popped up on NeoGAF today. This afternoon, a GAF poster named benny_a wrote that a friend at Activision had told him that Destiny’s much-anticipated sequel will indeed be on PC. The publisher informed employees about the news during an internal presentation today, according to benny_a. He added another interesting tidbit: that the Activision-owned studio Vicarious Visions is also helping out on Destiny 2. Although that isn’t public knowledge, I had heard the same thing a few weeks ago, which adds credence to benny_a’s report.

If it's still just grinding for better gear, i.e. cosmetic changes to visuals and some changes to stats, and other useless things like the Speeder bikes and Spaceships that sub for a loading screen i'll happily pass.

Guess i'm really not the target demo anymore for these games.. at least Halo had a really great story and main hero whereas Destiny masks itself as the next Halo whereas it's just a multiplayer shooter that has a story tacked on to appeal to all bases.

Bunch of new trailers just dropped in the last few days.

I never played the first game because I didn't have a next-gen console at the time. Now I have a PS4 and I'm really liking the look of Destiny 2. Would it be worth playing through Destiny before this, though? Apparently your character will transfer over, and it sounds like there's a decent amount of story in the first game now.

How do you feel about the core gameplay (i.e. the Bungie FPS feel)? If you like Halo coupled with MMO-lite mechanics, Bungie style world building, it's definitely worth it.

The story/campaign and general leveling content was heavily re-arranged since the release of The Taken King expansion, it feels pretty tight now. If you don't expect too much out of the story, you will have a really, really good time. There's a lot of content at this point in terms of bang for the buck - The Collection includes the Year One DLCs, the TTK expansion as well as Rise of Iron.

If you're only interested in your character transferring over, it's not worth it for that aspect alone. The transfer will be 100% cosmetic, gear doesn't transfer. There are no story choices either, so again, 100% cosmetic. It only really has meaning on a personal level if you played a ton of OG Destiny and are heavily invested in your character(s).

I've played every Halo game except for Guardians (don't have an Xbox One) so I'm both very familiar with and a fan of Bungie's FPS mechanics.

Yeah, I know The Taken King changed a lot of stuff. I recall that it completely changed how the leveling works, or something like that. I remember back in the days before the first game came out I was super hyped for it, but I didn't have a next-gen console at the time and then all the reports about the threadbare story really turned me off. But I've heard the expansions since then have done a lot to improve on that area, and it's looking like Bungie's going to give us a meatier story for Destiny 2, so my hype levels are rising again.

If all I focus on in the first game is the story content, will it be feasible to play through it alone? I'm sure there will still be people to group up with if I want to, but if I get in on this it'll probably be a few more weeks before getting the first game and by that point I'll want to power through the content as quickly as possible.

It's completely feasible. In that regard, the game has been designed very similarly to (post-WoW) contemporary MMORPGs from the beginning - leveling solo is not just possible, it's a perfectly valid choice. With the content re-shuffling, the leveling curve has been streamlined further as well, so you're not going to hit spots where you need to grind out levels in order to progress through the story content.

I'd definitely recommend checking out the multiplayer/PvP as well as the strikes (3 player matchmade co-op) during leveling if you need a break.

ready to check out the D2 beta o/

So is anyone playing this? Thoughts? I've already finished the campaign with 2 characters, halfway through with the 3rd. Already went flawless in Trials as well. I'm enjoying it, although there are a couple things I think they could do better, overall, I'm quite pleased.

Not a game player beyond the arcade a day or two a year--but I love the commercials.

PS, for folks who miss G4's ATTACK OF THE SHOW, Disney has a white-breaded version just called "Attack"

Very pleased. QoL improvements across the board, smart clan and sherpa system implementation.

Agreed, a lot of little improvements, although I do think there's still some room for improvement. Overall though, quite happy.

Got my second character up to 270. Went from lvl 15 to that light level in the span of about three hours, boosting alts has become quite trivial indeed.

I sort of love that my WL now looks like she's in a Korean MMO
