But I dont have especially good credit, I cant borrow from family. Anyone know any companies that offer instant loans of that amount to people with bad credit.

Do you have collateral? I mean most places that offer quick cash...you need to own stuff of value to secure the loan amount.

Such places do exist, but the interest rates are usually well beyond ridiculous, so be ready for that.

Never used that type of company myself.

I wouldn't borrow money from any third party source. If you REALLY need it then ask for a meeting with your bank to discuss your options. Do you mind me asking what it is for?

Many but they are no better than loan-sharks and the interest rates are out of this world. If you really must go down this road, I recommend you check out the loans section of Moneysavingexpert.com where you can read the pros and cons and all the horror stories.

No - in the UK, we have payday lenders who don't require any collateral but charge rates that I consider to be criminal.

US has payday lenders too...but like you say...the rates are criminal...ie ridiculous.

I need it for 2 things, unexpectedly high electricity cost - and to get my car through its MOT - I do need the car as I use it for work.

You have a job and a car so I am sure some place could work out something for you. :bolian:

900 pounds?! Unexpectedly high electricity cost for what, your steel mill?

Edit: it occurs to me that perhaps you need to make repairs to the car to make MOT, not just pay the MOT fee.

But, yeah, I don't know how the cash stores work in the UK, although I assume it's the same secured debt transaction as in the US, albeit probably with more rules and protections.

I'm something in the same boat. Turns out my emergency credit card got reduced somewhere along the line between 2003 and 2011 to a $500 limit, from $8500. So the idea that I had reserve funds for another three months is, um, somewhat illusory.

See if you can get a title loan on your car. That might be your best option, although the rates will likely be terrible. They will also take your car if you don't pay up, of course. You are basically putting a lien on your car to get some cash.

Do NOT take a loan from any third party loans company. I strongly suggest you speak to your bank and inform them of the situation. Credit with your bank is more stable than credit with any other lender. If that doesn't turn out well, go to your Citizens Advice Bureau.

There are a bunch of Credit Card companies that offer a lifeline for those with a bad credit rating.

Firstly I would get in touch with your electricity company and ask them to go on a payment plan. Most electricity companies (at least here in australia) will let you go on a regular payment scheme if you are having financial difficulties. It would be best to let them know and be open about it. In regards to your car worries maybe you can ask your employer for an advance on part of your pay. Another alternative is to get a credit card with a bank like Citibank who I know for fact will give credit cards to absolutely anybody having dealt with them when i worked as a fraud officer for a bank.
