Desperate Lesbians

They're both obviously crass and exploitative and aimed at drawing the straight male audience to drool over the lipstick lesbians but FlashForward seemed far better done than Heroes, which is utterly inane and an embarrassment.

I'm not sure what circles of lesbians y'all hang out with, but while I've known intellectual lesbians, I have also known exactly the type of "high school" lesbians that Claire and her friend seem to be. And that doesn't make their relationships any less valid. I know one couple who started that way and have been together for over a decade, now.

Aside from that, though, I've been wondering since Season One of Heroes when or if the lesbian angle was going to come into the picture for Claire, because in my opinion, it probably HAD to, eventually. From a "in-story" aspect, she probably can't be with a guy - her hymen would keep regenerating, which would probably be unpleasant for her, and downright uncomfortable to say the least for the guy involved. So that leaves her sexless, or looking for lesbian lovin', I would think. From a meta aspect, we all knew ratings would decline eventually, and what is hotter (and therefore better for ratings) than a cute cheerleader with superpowers? Duh. A cute LESBIAN cheerleader with superpowers.

However, as you pointed out, and I hadn't thought of before, the fact she could be a virgin, forever, makes her one of TV's greatest characters of...all...ficking...TIME!!!

Seems to me that line was perfectly in character. Of course that particular character would feel that way. And it explained why the character was still closeted to her colleagues.

You think a gay FBI agent wouldn't be having discussions like that? Especially with her new girlfriend?

I consider my self right in the 'middle' where it comes to politic and issues. I thought this conversation was natural. It didn't have the usual obvious spin that The West Wing, or my dearly missed Boston Legal had on a regular basis.

Hollywood has a single viewpoint about gays: They are all victims. In that context, FBI agent Janis Hawk's line seemed a little preachy. But I'll give the writers points for not turning the dinner scene into a longer discourse on the subject.

Look at the context. Janis was explaining to her date why she wasn't "out" at work. Seems like the kind of thing a new couple would discuss during the "getting to know you" phase--especially when one woman is out and the other isn't.

It isn't just about "hitting the sheets." It's the kind of personal information people share at the beginning of a relationship. And, from a storytelling perspective, it helped define Janis's relationships with her co-workers.

Remember, these aren't just "homosexuals." They're people on a date. And Janis is concerned with U.S. government policy because, er, she works for the government . . .

Umm...and dont forget..this is a suspense thriller. When the date asked her if she knew anything, I thought maybe this lesbian date was part of the kabal of what was going on. Perhaps the writers wanted us to suspect her, because I did the moment they were discussing the events...and who knows, maybe she is...

I just hope the FBI girl doesn't die. I do have my suspicions as to who her baby will belong to, but wont say it here...

A good while ago someone said this would happen and then it was taken as the joke it was.. but as it is with jokes sometimes they become true.

I've stopped watching Heroes partway into Season 3 and have never looked back.. by following some threads here it seems it was the right choice.

Having hot Claire make out with another (I'm assuming hot or at least somewhat attractive) girl is just catering to the demographic of the show with the lowest methods possible.

It is as i feared.. Heroes really is creatively bankrupt and i am pretty sure how the writers meetings are going. "Ratings are slipping.. what to do about it? - Our demo is mostly teenage and young adult males.. they sure like to see hot lesbians. Let's give em some.."

Just let the show die already.. the train has left the station for good after season 1 and it was clear after that that the creative staff was surprised by the success and clearly had no idea how to continue and they fucked it up for good.

All this talk of replacing actors once in a while went out the window when some characters became too popular and their powers too great so the usual clichees like memory loss or some mumbojumbo inhibitor bullshit had to be used so they wouldn't ruin the story right then..

Sorry.. way too long a rant for a simple "They are creatively bankrupt and lesbo Claire proves it"

Okay, Heroes sucks lately but they didn't "make out." It was a quick, mostly chaste, kiss, and after that all they've done is talk about it. The whole thing is being blown a bit out of proportion.

No..they didn't kiss, but wow...that entire conversation in the trunk of the car was so orchestrated, its almost just as bad...and Clare's teasing answers are just egging the viewer on and it just drips of formulate dialog to string the horny 14-year olds on...

Where as, on Flashforward, the women were engaged in mature discussion and it seemed real...

The only thing good about Heroes is Sylar/Parkman duel/dual in the brain...they should get their own show...
