Desperate Lesbians

HEREOS spoilers...so watch out.

I was watching Heroes, and was behind by about three episodes..so I got caught up. And I see that Clair, the cheerleader, is starting to have lesbian feelings. She has kissed this girl, and they had a very interesting conversation in the trunk of the car where Clair went out of her way to say she wasn't againt 'feelings' for this girl, but that she just wasn't ready.

Now, I am a ordinary guy. Cant deny I like me some 'innocent' lesbian action, even my wife understands. But...HEROES attempt at it seems desperate, at best. Not sure if its working ratings wise, but it sniffs of total desperate hail-mary type antics.

Now...on FLASHFORWARD, they have a lesbian character as well. And I thought the conversation between them, and the way the relationship evolved, was VERY well done and mature, and is probably the first time, on a major network show that I watch, where a lesbian relationship/conversations are actually thought-out and work. They come off real, where as on Heroes it all seems, I don't know, too sudden..too formulated.

But...that doesn't mean I don't want to see it, I mean, heck, I am not a fool.

The best part of HEROES, this season, is the Sylar/Parkman scenes. I actually laugh at them, some of them, because both these actors are really good and they could spinoff into their own show. Kind of like INNERSPACE; The TV show.

The best thing about FlashForward's lesbian sub-plot is the beauty of the characters involved. We all know this thing wouldn't fly if either of them reminded us of Rosie O'Donnell.

There is a scene where FBI agent Janis Hawk complains about the U.S. Government's policy regarding "gays and guns." The writers just couldn't leave their liberal politics out of the script.

I don't know how PARKMAN is going to get out of this...and, from what I saw, I think his wife wants Sylar to stay right where he is....

Anything with Rosie O'Donnell won't fly.....figuratively and litterally. :borg:

You'd rather have conservative politics?

^ Maybe he means "preaching to the CHOIR"? Meaning, what's the point of loading shows down with a political message/viewpoint that its target market is likely to already have?

Given that FlashForward has an audience of millions (with views across the whole spectrum), to say that the writers were merely "preaching to the choir" seems like an understatement.

It's fine with me if these shows simply quit preaching to the audience.

It's not preaching. Anti-gay feelings exist. When folks say that shows should keep politics out of it, they mean political views with which they disagree.

They're both obviously crass and exploitative and aimed at drawing the straight male audience to drool over the lipstick lesbians but FlashForward seemed far better done than Heroes, which is utterly inane and an embarrassment. :rommie:

I don't watch Heroes anymore after season 3 but I have kept up with Clairebears lesbian adventures.

Desperate or not, ratings stunt or not, I can't say I care.
My only complaint is that they should have used way more tongue. :p

As for FlashForward I'm a little behind and can't really comment.

I just don't see what "political message" there is in it. Gay people exist. While we can argue about the motivations for portraying lesbian relationships on TV, I don't see it as any kind of "political message" to acknowledge their existence and have them on a show.

I mean, what, if you don't like black people, is it a "political message" if there are black people on a show? :shifty: KEEP POLITICS OFF MY TV!

Seems to me that line was perfectly in character. Of course that particular character would feel that way. And it explained why the character was still closeted to her colleagues.

You think a gay FBI agent wouldn't be having discussions like that? Especially with her new girlfriend?

I consider my self right in the 'middle' where it comes to politic and issues. I thought this conversation was natural. It didn't have the usual obvious spin that The West Wing, or my dearly missed Boston Legal had on a regular basis.
