Designing A Trek Ship

I love the "scramblers" idea, I think I would use it on the enemy crew however. Kill the crew and it leaves me with a perfectly good starship to capture.

^That sounds eggciting!

To expand on the AI based ship, I would still have a live crew for some things. In that regard, why not use the holodeck technology for most of the ship? New captain doesn't like the colors and layout of the bridge? no problem! "computer, modify program Bridge: captain's settings 01". Crew quarters could be holosuite based as well. All public areas could be repurposed much more quickly for say - emergency evacuations of planets - into refuge berthing or medical facilities. They could even augment the number of crew. Need more security officers? activate some ESH's(emergency security hologram). Even if you have protocol's in place that keeps them from killing living beings, they could still incapacitate/restrain them.

The usefulness of the holodeck technology and the wasted potential of it reminds me of archeological research into central/south america where they found the only use of the wheel was in toys.

I never understood why ships didn't have phaser turrets placed along corridors incase of a boarding party.
They should be on a ship too.

Seeing as how often the systems of Federation starships fail, both don't seem such a good idea in retrospect. I can see hordes of redshirts dying in the hallways due to an error in the gel pack. And everybody falling on their asses due to all holographic systems failing twice a day. :D

What about this: Take a neural interface, huge projectors on your hull and you'll be anywhere within range. You'll never have to leave your starship. And every starship can be as small as a shuttle, for there's only one crew. And, as technology gets better, make the shuttle have a wireless link and you'll never have to leave your bathroom. Ever. And you can have trillions of ships due to the fact that every citizen has one. And if it gets destroyed, just replicate a new one, like the self-replicating mines. No war shall be lost! Though I doubt it would be fun...

They already have emergency bulkheads, forcefields, locks on the doors, anti-hacking software, all kinds of stuff that they inexplicably fail to use when they get boarded. Phaser turrets in the corridor would just give them one more security system for them to not use.
