Design the Next Enterprise

Yeah, i've gotten into STO again recently and i've made it a personal mandate of mine to always choose the strict canon ship where available - no crazy decals or paintjobs either.

I'm currently rocking a Defiant Class, which looks as awesome as it did on the show (I think its one of their better built meshes, at least compared to the Galaxy Class which has a wonky neck) but the Alternate Defiant designs are just awful. From what i've seen, more of the cryptic designed variants fall into two camps - over designed to destruction with every conceivable armor panel slapped on, or a basic shape with some crappy texture applied to it. The Galaxy and Defiant variants spring to mind here, with one being a clusterfuck of pieces (the Envoy Class) and the other being an arrangement of cylinders (Celestial).

They just look so haphazard next to the Galaxy. I can't believe CBS signed off on them but are bitching over our designs.

Where did that come from?

I may have been wrong, but I took it as a poke at the my Luna Class that is already apart of the ships available. Sorry if I misunderstood what you were saying.
It's okay, I was just caught off guard by that. It's pretty hard to mix up the Luna with the NX-91001, although I could've been more clear as to where the design in question belonged.

No harm no foul

That seems to be whats wrong with many of the STO designs. They are trying so hard to use the modularity, that they are sacrificing aesthetics. I would rather have a couple of a dozen well done designs, rather than several dozen sub par designs.

I am honestly afraid that they might do the same to the winning design (or designs they chose to use), specifically if my design were to win. It seems that they try to avoid complex curves whenever they can (Zephyr class, I'm looking at you >_>), and considering how many curves my design used, I'm scared that they might end up blanding it down, or even ruin it.

Urgh, yeah, the Zephyr Class. The Steamrunner could have been a science ship unto itself (replacing the grossly inaccurate Olympic Class in T2) with multiple variants created based on that frame. A Norway class could easily have changed components with the Akira IMO, as they share the same basic layout (I see the Oslo was a very literal update of the Norway, but still, the Norway class is a distinct design, not a variation on a theme).

And let's not get started on the Klingon designs.

At least some of the Fed ships have some kind of unique configuration. The Klinkers all blend together into one green, ungainly mess.

Me neither.

Fuzzy?

Here!
(nothing unread in my inbox;)

Y'know when you're at a restaurant, and you've been waiting for your food forever, then you go to the bathroom, and when you come back the food has arrived?

I'm gonna "go to the bathroom." If the food comes while I'm gone, feel free to start without me. I know we're all starving :p

News is out!

Runner-up here! Now the speculation / boolean logic begins of who won the big tamale.

Congrats to the Grand Prize winner! Can't wait to see the ship in-game!

EDIT : HOLY SHIT WE GET TO SEE A NEW ENTERPRISE

Geek glee mode activated. Now, the waiting.

How were you notified and when?

And which one was yours again?

Including Mojomoe and looking at the STO forums, it would appear that 3 people at least have been notified so far.

Wow, that's great news, guys. I'm in the same boat as Sean, but it's good to hear some of us will be getting recognition at the very least!
