Design the Next Enterprise

I to think they came up with a good winner. (It will take me a little while to get used to the design, like the JJprise I am sure I will grow to love it)
It will be interesting to see how they transform it into a playable model for the game.

I to really have a problem with the way the contest was run, but lets not pull away from Adam and his design.

P.S.

While my design was not picked for the game it will remain the Enterprise-F or even G in my non-canon Universes (Dark Mirror and Fereration Universe). Think of my design as a Myriad Universe Enterprise-F.

Cragrats again!!!

Congrats, Adam! Nice to see one of our own here win! :techman:

And I'd also like to see all the other winners' entries, even the ones from here. I've forgotten who did what, and where they are in this thread.

Well-done, Adam! And congratulations to all the runner-ups! I've been lurking this thread and it has been a lot of fun reading all the anticipation and speculation going into this contest.

Adam, your design is lovely. It falls along conservative lines, but it truly invokes the flavor of a ship called Enterprise. Keep us updated as the model progresses, please. As much as you can.

I have not received an email.

Congrats to the winners!

I'll have something to show you when they release the official announcement. Until then my forum activity is likely to be rather minimal.

It's been fun. :)

What did I say about waiting for the food? :p

Received my email yesterday (Wednesday 4th May 4:05 PM Pacific/CA)

Looks like this:

subject: Design the Next Enterprise

Greetings,

Congratulations!

Your submission placed in our Design the Next Enterprise contest for Star Trek Online. You are one of 21 runners-up and as one of the runners-up you will shortly receive a copy of Star Trek Online and a poster signed by the Star Trek Online development team.

We received thousands upon thousands of entries and many of them were great designs, which made it difficult for Cryptic and CBS to decide upon winning entries. We thank you so much for your participation in the Design the Next Enterprise contest and we will be in further contact with you so that we can notify you when you will receive your prizes.

Thank you,

The Star Trek Online Development Team

My entry was #1400.

(If Fuzzy didn't get one yet I did then something seems really wrong here.)

Wow, hadn't checked - looks like the truth is out!

Holy crap, congrats on the winning design! She's an absolute beauty.

It's great to be here witnessing the launch of a new legend.

She is hereby christened -- U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701-F
May the wind be at her back.

For the people that have been notified, were you asked to respond? I am thinking that Cryptic would need some indication that you had accepted. So far there seems to be only 5 or 6 people that have come forward, I am wondering if Cryptic is waiting for responses before they contact anyone else?

I was hoping that I would be one of the finalists, but I guess the Essex wasn't quite on par with some of the other entries. Oh well, if its any consolation to those who didn't win, chances has it that for each of our designs, there is at least one parallel world in which they won (if you take any stock in the theory of parallel timelines).

I'm going to reuse her design though. She kind of stems from a Heavy Cruiser class called the Potemkin, which is supposed to replace the Ambassador and supplement the Korolev classes. I plan to first focus on the Valkyrie class, sense she is smaller, and I have no immediate reason anymore to focus on the latter design.

Congratulations to Ihlecreations (or should I call you Adam?) for earning the grand prize, and being chosen as the designer of the next Enterprise.

I'm relieved to hear you say that you aren't quite satisfied with your design thus far, because I still feel skeptical about her. But whatever you do, DO NOT simply leave the refining your design to the artists at Cryptic (thinking about many of the designs already in STO). You must take a major part in refining your design.

I personally hope that the saucer is designed to be a long oval like the Sovereign, and not a short oval like the Galaxy, because I am certain that she will look better with a long saucer section. I would also personally suggest that you think about how the two sections are going to look while separated, and make the necessary changes to make them look good.

Whatever you do, just remember: this is the Enterprise. Do everything you can to make her one of the most aesthetically pleasing vessels ever. There are a lot of people counting on you. It probably won't be easy, but I doubt you would have been chosen as the winner if you couldn't do it.

Congratulations to Mojomoe, Vector, AntaresDefiant, and all the other runner ups.

*AntaresDefiant: no surprise here that you're a runner up, your pretty good. Before the contest, I had never seen any of your work. I'd like to see any other designs that you've done if there are any.

P.S.

While my design was not picked for the game it will remain the Enterprise-F or even G in my non-canon Universes (Dark Mirror and Fereration Universe). Think of my design as a Myriad Universe Enterprise-F.

Isn't that a little, I don't know, arrogant? I would agree with the idea of using your design as an Enterprise for an alternate/parallel timeline, but I think that it would be a good idea to acknowledge the existence of yet another reality in which the canon Enterprise-F co-exists with the rest of your designs, while also making an alternate Federation Universe that is based more on your vision. No need to quite do that with your Dark Mirror Universe, since that is obviously already an alternate timeline to the 'original'.

No request for a response, just said they would be in further contact about the prizes. Looks like all the runners-up got identical emails that were all sent out at the same time. The one Adam got was a little different for obvious reasons.

My guess is that all the winners have been notified, whether or not they've come forward to confirm it.

I also found it interesting that no one, not even the grand prize winner, was apparently prohibited from talking about it, which almost everyone assumed would be the case.

No I am not being arrogant, I just want to keep my design in my gallery and fleet as the Enterprise. I have also had a few people who have asked to use it as the Enterpise in their online community. I may change it to the Enterprise G. I draw my own Mirror Universe fleet so what is to say that the Terran Empire went in another Direction.

Ah, I see, and understand. I kind of like to think that she is the Enterprise in a parallel universe. Her class ship can still exist in the same universe as the winning design, maybe as one of the experimental designs built for the proposal of replacing the Galaxy class, but didn't do quite as well as in another reality. Same thing goes for the Terran Empire; I would like to think that there is are versions of the Terran Empire that are identical to your vision (because I love how your Imperial Starships are armed to the teeth); one in which your design is used as the Enterprise-F, and another that is identical except the winning design is used as the next Enterprise (as for that, I think we'll let Adam take care of that version).

Exactly. Adam's Design is The Prime Universe/ STO universe Enterprise. I am not going to take that from him. I would love to see my deign fly next to his in the same universe.

Who knows I may change my federation version to the Exalibur or The James T. Kirk. (I know that there is already ships of those names, but who is to say what class they are by the STO timeline) Also I can just ad a bloody a,b,c... after the registry.

But yep in the Dark Mirror Fleet she will be the Enterprise or Tiberus.

Yeah, I'd like to also see my design fly in some form along with the Adams design. Come to think of it, I wonder if I should also integrate some design elements with mine, to make it clear that the two are contemporary?

Don't go with Excalibur. There are already enough ships vying for that name. We already know that there are at least two different classes with that name, and I don't want a third. As far as I'm concerned, the Excalibur is the NX-90000 battleship design. I can't ignore her, given how much she is used in fanon already as it is. I think one of Atolm's designs was given the class name James T. Kirk, but given the registry she ended up with, and the fact that she has modern phaser arrays, when the Ambassador to my knowledge was supposed to be one of the first ships to utilize modern phaser arrays, I don't know how she could be integrated into canon.
Using James T. Kirk as the class name would certainly settle the matter for me once and for all, and if there is currently a ship that uses the name, I'm not aware of her.

In one of the recent Typhon Pact Novels there was a James T. Kirk in Battle it was an Akira class. I will look up the registry and ad A, B, or C after to pay homage. that way if I name here the Tiberus in the Dark Mirror Universe I can use the same registry.

Doesn't bother me in the LEAST that I didn't even rate an honorable mention for the Enterprise F contest - MY ship was an Enterprise H.

So there.
