Design the Next Enterprise

SFM's Howard Day should enter his Chariot :D
[edit] and how could I forget that the Chariot was originally designed by Atolm! oops!

Oh, definitely! I love that design, but I doubt it would win simply because it's configuration is different from the rest of the Enterprises.

I'm tempted to enter my new Legacy-class, but I think at first glance it looks too much like the Sovereign to have much of a chance.

I'll bet a lot of the submissions are going to have that problem. Me, I'd love for the new design to look something like a massive version of Spock's Jellyfish from Star Trek '09.

Ironically, we'll probably never see a truly canon version of the Enterprise-F, since we'll probably never see the prime universe any more. And...December 9th? That's only a few weeks from now. There's no way they're gonna get a well-though-out design in that time, unless people are just gonna send them old stuff, which kinda defeats the purpose of creating a new design.

I know that is depressing for me. :(
Just as depressing as the fact that nowadays some low-budget fan productions tell better stories than the multi-million canon projects (VOY, ENT, ST10&11, ...).

Dec 9 is plenty of time to get a few idea down on paper, before they give the full guidelines. I already have a couple sketched out. Unfortunately my ideas end up
sorta looking like Voyage from the side.

Well, that's when you can start submitting designs, but there's nothing there saying when the contest will end yet.

My bad. I thought that was when the contest ended. D'oh!

The last thing I need to do is add another project to my plate, but I may not be able to resist taking a shot at this one. Maybe I could recycle my Titan concept since I never actually submitted it for that contest. Hmm...

We're setting up a spceial tool for you to submit your designs, and it'll appear December 9, 2010. Be sure to check back in for your chance to Design the Next Enterprise!

When they say "spceial (special) tool" do they mean something to upload files or something to create designs with... I mean, otherwise we'd need to have and know how to use 3D software which I'm sure most people don't have. Or I suppose draw something out in Illustrator or Paint, but unless you're really good I don't think it'd really stand a chance.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. Look at Rick Sternbach. The man achieves better results with a pen and paper than most people do with 3D software that costs several thousand dollars.

But that falls under the "really good" category. I'm looking at this from an average person's point of view. :)

What, pray tell, is a "spceial" tool? Is it a new kind of spellchecker so that none of the submitted names are readable? ;)

I just hope "special" doesn't equate to 4th-grade-reading-level-age-appropriate-E-for-everyone-mamby-pamby-über-retardedness.
