Describe YOUR new Star Trek series.

Just no reboots!

I agree. People talk about reboots and being "free" from existing canon. However, this just exemplifies to me that generally reboots are the result of lazy writing (Yes, I'm looking at you J.J. Abrams). There's nothing wrong with developing amazing stories within the framework of existing canon. It just requires some effort and creativity.
Nah any lazy writing can happen in any format. All the canon ( actually continuity) in the world won't make a bad story amazing. Strict adherence to continuity has very little to do with successful story telling.

Agreed. To be honest, I find such strict adherence to canon to be both stultifying and tedious anyway. The new movies were such a breath of fresh air.

Stewart is one of the few remaining TNG actors that could convincingly reprise their role without the viewer being constantly reminded of how much time had passed.

Think Frakes and Sirtis in "....These Are the Voyages" ten years ago. I was embarrassed for them.

There have been a lot of books written about memories of making Star Trek. I suspect more story than truth, but I do enjoy reading them. I'd like to see them made into a show about the making of Trek.

Hm I've voiced my ideas for a new Star Trek series before.

Star Trek: Reconstruction.
Basically a "re-kindling of the light" storyline set about 100 years after the dominion war.
The aftermath of the Dominion War has not been kind to the Federation, there was no cataclysmic event or anything just an overwhelming loss of confidence in the good the Federation could bring and in the general idea to "Boldly Go". Slipstream Technology was initially hailed as the Federation and Starfleet's savior, only to prove too unstable and expensive to produce to employ it on a grand scale. Instead of advancing and expanding the Federation has slowly crumbled and its technology and ships continued to get smaller and cruder. The high morals and ideals have slowly faded and many believe that humanity and the other species of the former Federation are doomed to just decline in power and standard of living, especially as powers like the Orion Syndicate, the Tholians or the Ferengi Alliance, as well as old enemies like the Romulans and the Klingons close in like crows to feast on the decaying corpse.
Yet some people are not willing to just roll over and let their civilization die and they manage to launch the new Enterprise, the last of the great ships of old Starfleet to reestablish old alliances, discover new ones and follow the old dream of exploration.

Agreed. Also, Michael Dorn could easily reprise his role too.

Smallville Trek. Starfleet Academy. Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the rest, in the vein of the academy scenes in the '09 movie.

It wouldn't be Trekking through the stars, but all the best Treks are about the characters, anyway.

Agreed. Also, Michael Dorn could easily reprise his role too.
You mean "Skeletor?"

The aftermath of the Dominion War has not been kind to the Federation, there was no cataclysmic event or anything just an overwhelming loss of confidence in the good the Federation could bring and ...
After the general public finds out that it was more the efforts of Section 31 , and not the fleet, that achieved victory over the Dominon, what effect would that have on the philosophy and ethics of the Federation political direction?

If that's what it takes to protect the population, than do it. Because apparently whatever Starfleet's doing doesn't work.

:)

I like that idea of fallout, as the war was definitely something that left a bad taste in the Admiralty's mouth, at least from what we saw. Even Sisko could find no joy in the Dominion's defeat, given what it required.

The ramifications of the war could certainly be interesting but I think it would need a champion for Federation principles to be the counter-movement against the new Section 31 style leadership.

If I was in this fantasy scenario, I'd be more inclined to push for a new intellectual property that shares Star Trek's premise of a starship on a mission of exploration, (Star Trek abandoned the premise, so it must be up for grabs, right?) but is otherwise unrelated to Star Trek.

Honestly, I find Hollywoods (and societies, for that matter) fixation with the past and obsession with recapturing past glories rather than making new ones to be unhealthy.

Yes, another reason for worlds to break away from the Federation "At least the Klingons are honest about dominating you, Earth has manipulated us from the shadows for ages!"

As to the Champion of Federation Principles, that's pretty much what the Captain of the new Enterprise would be, a paragon of all that was good about the Golden Age of Starfleet/the Federation in the 23rd ad 24th centuries.

Section 31 is a very good idea, not only would it play into classic dystopian fiction to have a totalitarian shadow government take over, but it would give our characters a very powerful "enemy from within" to fight against. One of the characters could even be a sleeper agent for Section 31.

Lt. (jg). Maggie Garcia: Quiet and shy, she is ironically the ship's Communications Officer. Unknown to most of the crew, Garcia is a descendant of the Eugenic supermen who plunged Earth into war centuries ago. Smarter and stronger than most humans, but raised in isolation by scientists, Garcia is socially awkward and at times uncomfortable with "normals" and fears their reaction to her background. April, whose ancestors fought and died in the Eugenics Wars, isn't pleased to have her aboard. Goldman is her "sponsor" and one of the chief designers of the program to "mainstream" Eugenic Humans. Garcia was the "number one" candidate for this program. ;)
Anyone known to have an augment background is pretty much kept under lock and key by the Government of Earth. (The UFP turns a blind eye to this "internal matter") Part of the reason for this is the augment process causes various mental problems (paranoia, megalomania, sociopathic tendencies.) Garcia is on an experimental drug regimen to keep this under control. Which probably contributes to her shyness and quiet demeanor. All the above would be plot points for various episodes and arcs.

Pardon me, but looking at Julian Bashir, I thought that wasn't true. Wouldn't 23rd and 24th century science have made it possible for an Augmented person to be exceptional in the areas found lacking, and little more than that? (Yes, the Jack Pack were flawed, but still, they weren't anything like Khan and the other Augments of his era, nor were they like the ones developed by Dr. Soong in the 22nd century.)

Anyway, great concept that you've come up with.

Agreed. Also, Michael Dorn could easily reprise his role too.

He has gotten quite thin but makeup and a fat suit can fix that. He's really his voice, which hasn't changed.

Getting thinner isn't a crime, and at least, he's not a whale like Frakes and Robert Duncan McNeill (a vegetarian diet can do that to you.) And, does he really need a fat suit?

Well, you can over do anything. Still, many of the Klingons we saw were fairly lean, and the argument could be made that as a younger man Worf deliberately "bulked up" with muscle and then slimmed down later in his life.

If told that adding some muscle weight was a requirement of the role, Dorn might be willing to do so. He has expressed a desire to play Worf again.

A series set on the Archer-Class U.S.S. Artemis NCC-1892, from 2266 onwards, as they travel to the edge of nowhere and peek behind the curtains. With just a crew of fourteen, it would be more of an ensemble piece, with all those onboard having their moment in the spotlight and no random extras strolling around in the background. With the compact nature of the ship, the entirety of the layout could be built (similar to Firefly) so we can see how it all fits together as the crew walk through corridors, up ladders, into rooms, etc.

Since the ship isn't designed for serious combat, it wouldn't be the main drive of the action or storylines, allowing for far greater focus on the characters and their development.

Captain Lilith Alexander - Human, Female, 42
Once an operative for Starfleet Intelligence, there is a thirteen year redacted section in her service record, before returning to fleet duty once again. All her skills and knowledge made her the ideal candidate to command such a ship, even though it is a time in her life she is trying to move away from. Very used to doing everything herself, she has difficulties delegating tasks and issuing duties to others.

Lieutenant Commander Reithe Nur Hadan - Rigelian, Female, 36
Currently Second-In-Command, she was once a Tactical Officer and continues to apply her cunning and strategic approach to her post onboard. She is not someone to be underestimated, as she is very much the steel fist in the silk glove. She has made a name for herself at being astonishingly brilliant at discerning weaknesses in hostile ships and manoeuvres.

Lieutenant Tovaal - Vulcan, Male, 53
Though a highly skilled Helm Officer and Navigator, his official assignment is as Second Officer. With a distinguished career behind him, he applies his logic and reason to his new role. Though from a prestigious family on Vulcan, he has turned away from tradition by pursuing a relationship with Petty Officer T'Ping--not that he suspects anyone back home would learn of it.

Lieutenant Richard Shan M.D. - Human, Male, 34
As Medical Officer onboard, he is to treat any injury or illness the crew might suffer, however he would rather spend his time in the lab carrying out research. He isn't uncaring, but more passionate about his work into biomedical science and xenobiology than healing the sick. He is also the best chess and poker player on the ship.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Vaadyl - Rhaandarite, Androgynous, 198
By far the oldest onboard, he/she is still young in the eyes of his/her people and peculiar for his/her adventurous streak. Over the decades, he/she has become an expert in tracking and reconnaissance, as well as attaining two masters degrees, and numerous other skills--all of which make him/her appear overqualified to be Chief Field Scout and Security Chief.

Ensign Slarr glasch Tagh - Tellarite, Male, 21
The most junior crew member onboard, he is fresh from the Academy and very green, though all the reports on him show his to be a gifted Science Officer. With seven advanced degrees under his belt, his occasional outbursts of pomp and arrogance are often statements of fact not brags. He still has to learn how to apply academia to the real world however.

Master Chief Petty Officer Inge Mueller - Human, Female, 47
As Chief Engineer of such a small ship, usually lacking in spare parts, her efficient and practical manner stands her in good stead onboard. Though a solid all-rounder in the engine room, it is with warp drive and power systems that she excels, as such she takes great pride in her engine--and may all the gods in the cosmos help whoever causes it damage.

Chief Petty Officer Zaryn - Tiburonian, Male, 36
The resident jack-of-all-trades, he can handle just about any duty given to him, though it is bridge operations where he truly excels--communications and tactical in particular. A very gracious and helpful man, he is always willing to lend a hand (or any other body part) wherever needed. He is always adding to his skill set, often picking the brains of others onboard.

Chief Petty Officer Olivia Wilde - Human, Female, 34
Raised on a fledgling colony, which was constantly under resourced, she had to learn how to survive with only her guile and what was at hand. Her wilderness survival skills stands her in good stead as a Field Scout, whilst she also holds several high levels in various martial arts. A hard-worker she cannot abide idleness, so is always doing something, somewhere onboard.

Petty Officer First Class Meera Sharma - Human, Female, 32
Smart, straightforward and having no patience for tact, she often comes across as blunt or rude--but she would rather people find her rude than be bothered in inane platitudes. She applies her direct approach to her duties as Helmsman/Navigator, whilst also applying her formal manner to her downtime as well--being cordial with those she serves with.

Petty Officer First Class T'Ping - Vulcan, Female, 46
As Engineer's Mate, she is methodical and meticulous--which is why she specialises in systems diagnostics, as well as overseeing the ship's computers and sensor arrays. She is also very adept with impulse drives and EPS assemblies. Though from a family of significantly lower standing than Lieutenant Tovaal's, the two have have begun an illicit affair onboard.

Petty Officer Second Class Jetar - Orion, Male, 30
Though born within Federation space, he is still tarred with the stereotypical brush for Orions. Quiet and unassuming, he serves as Field Scout and Security Guard onboard--being both an expert marksman and master at surveillance and infiltration. He is also a trained helmsman, whilst his sheer strength is often put to good use in the cargo hold.

Petty Officer Second Class Dalaya - Syraen, Female, 27
Stunning beautiful with sass to spare, her primary role onboard is as a Science Specialist (with degrees in anthropology, astrogeology, and biochemistry) assisting Ensign Tagh, however she is also a fully certified and thoroughly trained Corpsman--which sees her helping out in sickbay or on landing parties as field medic.

Petty Officer Third Class Thelaethren ch'Vahro - Andorian, Chan, 25
Laeth to his friends (of which he has many), is the junior Engineer onboard. He does however have a degree in structural engineering, as well as specialising in environmental systems and damage control, not to mention transporter operations. Very much a techie, he likes nothing more than being posed with a problem and told to solve it. At present he is undertaking piloting training.

You are of course right. Sadly the way things are right now, even adaptions of boardgames and endless reboots of movies less than 10 years old are more likely to see the light of day than original stories or new IPs.

I would also love a new show with aliens and outer space and all that good stuff. Anyway, the basic premise of "futuristic space exploration" was always out for grabs, even when ST was still on the air, I don't think you can copy right a baic premise like that.
