Deleted STID Scene!

Agreed. Nice scene, but it didn't fit. The same message (irresponsibility, immaturity) was done better in a few seconds when Kirk says to Spock, "So what? They saw us," then we cut back to the native drawing an outline of the Enterprise in the dirt. Whoops!

So, they have an Ancient Astronaut theory in a few thousand years.

Hardly the end of the world.

This.

Earth survived in the Star Trek universe after multiple incidents with aliens. I think the Niburu will be okay.

To be fair, if any starship's worth worshipping, it's a Connie.

I haven't seen STID since it came out.

THEN. STOP. POSTING. BITCHING. ABOUT. IT.

None of those deleted scenes could save STID from sucking.

Why do you keep coming to a board dedicated to a movie that you don't like and then put in a comment like this out of left field? What does it accomplish? You're welcome to come over sure, but you might prevent your heartrate from skyrocketing by going to threads about things that are more to your liking.

On a side note, I just realized that the scene with Kirk lying in his report actually gives Scotty more oomph. He just saw the captain lie with a straight face to Starfleet Command. Later on, Starfleet puts the torpedoes on board and Scotty protests because he can't get clearance to check them out. Scotty resigning was always about his principles, but this time it's because that's twice now where he can't trust his own captain with the truth, which makes Kirk accepting his resignation even more painful for both men (and thus Scotty's drunken rant in the bar would have more motivation, too).

In the final version, Scotty had plenty of reason already to maintain the high ground, but the deleted scene would have put a more personal reason to the resignation.

I don't know. It will cause their cable and satellite systems in the future to be full of crap quasi-science TV shows passing themselves off as legitimate inquiry. That's bad enough.

That, and you never know. The sighting of the Enterprise sets off an orgy of celebration. Children are conceived that otherwise wouldn't have been. One of the "Enterprise babies" born ends up a direct descendent of that planet's Hitler. Tell me that couldn't happen. Tell me! :p

The "board" is not dedicated to a movie I don't like.

The comment was appropriate for the topic/discussion. Not everyone has to agree here.

Of course telling the truth gets Kirk and co. In trouble since Starfleet wouldn't like him saving a pre-warp civilization.

So considering this Starfleet is using TNG passive genocide supporting, hypocritical, and kind of imperialistic version of the prime directive it's not that much of a moral stand.

Plus Am I the only one wierded out by Scotty being anti-militarism when in the Prime Universe he once said that "the best diplomat he knew was a fully charged phaser bank".

^ Aaaand there it is.

Another good deleted scene, Scotty BSing his way onto the Vengeance.

Makes a little more sense than them just not noticing an extra shuttle.
Of all the deleted scenes, I definitely wish this one had remained in the film. It makes a lot more sense than the conspirators not counting how many supply shuttles they were expecting.

Not the board as a whole, but this forum is, more or less.

Given the comment to which your previous post was a response, I'm inclined to cut a little slack (though Squig's post was—if rather blunt and shouty—also not wholly without a valid point) but also bear in mind this, from the board's FAQ:
Showing Criticism

It's fine to say a certain aspect of Star Trek is bad, as long as you don't insult the people who think otherwise, and as long as you actually back up what you say. Jumping in and shouting "Kirk sucks!" is not an acceptable form of constructive criticism.

No, not everyone is required to agree—of course not—but surely you can see how taking the additional step of supporting your assertion would have made the post seem less "drive-by swipe" and more "active participation in the conversation"?

I also wish they had kept this in the film. One of my big problems with these films is they never take time to just have Kirk sit for a bit and do a simple log. There is always to much camera shaking and light. This scene tones things down a bit and even has a little humor at the end. They should have kept it in or kept a similar one in. Maybe they will have a special edit one day.

That's the difference between one 2 hour movie every 2-3 years and one episode out of 20-24 per year.

You can do so many more little things in a TV episode, but movie goers, especially nowadays, expect action.action.action., at least in an action oriented film.

I agree some of these deleted scenes would have made the film feel more Star Trek-y.

Maybe one of his family members was killed on the Kelvin by a "fully charged phaser bank," and he grew up with said aversion? Remember, Nero changed everything! :techman:

Yeah that's a sad state of movies today. In TWOK they had little scenes like that to give us a break from the action. It seems now people want shaky cam, bright lights and quick cuts with little dialogue.

To be fair I'm pretty sure the shows did that to recap for people who were just tuning in so they weren't confused about the stuff they missed' which isn't really necessary for a movie.
