Deleted Klingon scene available online

I have only one question: did they mix Delta Vega up with Rura Penthe? In the movie, Delta Vega is the ice planet, and Rura Penthe is this?
Holy crap, how did I miss this?
Good one, Jarod! :techman:

I still stick by the shot of Old Spock watching Vulcan be destroyed being a projected image or hologram sent to Delta Vega by Nero. Vulcan and Delta Vega aren't in the same solar system, much LESS that damn close.

Yes, good one.

Because planets have the same weather and morphology in every single region. And no seasons.
I mean if you go to Egypt and you then go to Antarctica you absolutely must not find ice and snow there, just more camels spiting under the hot sun.

Not to mention, that there has been no confusion as is evident by numerous interviews with the writers addressing the matter of Delta Vega.

Interviews are not in the movie. And you're totally missing the point.

So, what was the official rationale for Klingons wearing full head armor? Could they not come down on how Klingons were supposed to look?

We don't really see much of the outside of Rura Penthe, it's all heavily industrialized areas where they would not be letting snow build up. It was a mine so it's not like there aren't going to be cleared areas.

Why would a Klingon need to wear a mask?
given what we know about Klingons it would seem cowordly to hide like that.

Fumes from mining operations?

To protect their faces from frostbite?

My take has always been that they were QucHa' - "Unhappy Ones" in Klingonese; those Klingons stricken by the virus which dissolved their head ridges in ENT. They were forced to wear the masks to hide their unsightly deformity. Of course by the original TOS timeframe, they were no longer quite so victimised.

The Klingon interrogator does not sound very Klingon to me. If I didn't know his race I never would have guessed.

I know what you mean, but then again I don't reckon Koloth sounded particularly Klingon in "The Trouble With Tribbles."

Oh, yeah; that's a pretty good rationale.

Yeah, you guys are missing the critical point: these Klingons weren't constantly babbling about "honor". Which is a good thing, considering the high likelihood of Klingons appearing in the next film.
No friggin' doubt. I love that the Klingon there acted and sounded like a TOS Klingon. I dig TNG Klingons, but TOS are where it's at.

Wow, do you think they deliberately made them sound like TOS Klingons? Here I was thinking they were just weakly directed/scripted.

I don't know if the point was to sound like TOS Klingons, but they were calm, menacing and, as was noted upthread, not growling and going on and on about "honor," so I think they qualified.

I only watched the clip once, so maybe I just didn't pick upon poor direction/scripting, but I was satisfied with it.

Honor.. yeah it would have bordered on the cliched if the interrogator had bellowed in Nero's face, "Romulan pig, you have NO HONOR".

Glad that didn't happen.

They also reminded me of Cardassians (at least the interrogator did). As someone said (I can't remember if it was on TrekBBS or some other forum), Cardassians are a bit like TOS Klingons done better and given more complexity.

Hi

I'm new here but would like some info...

I'm a graphite artist and I have a collection of contempory works of portraits by association of Star Trek characters - such as Worf, Picard etc. These I am planning to use to also produce a series of greeting cards.

Can you tell me if there are any conventions etc where Trekkies might be interested in my work?

I'm not really very well-versed about conventions or about which ones are happening where; I think this is a question better-suited to the General Trek Discussion forum or perhaps to the Trek Art forum. You could also look in the Meet-Ups forum; I believe there was a thread in there at one time in which people would post news about upcoming conventions. As well, I know that there used to be websites which served as a source of information about events taking place in the UK -- I don't know off the top of my head which to direct you to, but Google may be helpful in locating one or more of those.

Edit:

There was no official rationale that I'm aware of. I speculated elsewhere that because Rura Penthe is a mining facility populated with the worst inmates of the Klingon prison system, a combination miner's hard hat and riot police-type protective headgear might not be too far-fetched a thing for a prison guard to be wearing. I hadn't really thought much about the interrogator's helmet before, but it I suppose it could be worn for psychological effect upon the subject of the interrogation.

That and protection from that pesky hanging lamp, besides. :D
