Del Toro OUT of Trek film

Why do people assume that using Khan automatically mean remake? There's ways to introduce Khan into the Abramsverse without remaking Space Seed or TWOK. What? No one's got an imagination?!?

I rather like the idea of Kahn being like James Bond - a generational name passed down. Instead of having a guy from the "90s" in some space ship... (uhm boy that really seems silly NOW we can barely get past our orbit) but I think a series of "Kahns" from the original Kahn Noonian Singh to whoever's the current Kahn Singh would be interesting. Maybe giving the impression that "there's always been a 'Kahn' and always will be a 'Kahn.'

Do people know what "remake" means?

Some folks are confusing it with "revisiting" or "reprising" a character. But TWOK can't be remade. Not in this JJVerse. The story has too much baggage driving it that is unique to its own time and universe. If the powers that be actually tried to adapt the story to the JJVerse, I think it would show that they missed a lot of what TWOK was really about on several levels. (And, I would doubt that.)

"Space Seed", however, could be remade in some form. I personally would not hope for as it was mostly a "talking heads" ship-based episode. The story would need a lot of work -- "actioning up" -- for the big screen. And was it really compelling enough a story to merit feature film treatment?

This is about Khan the character. Is that character worth introducing into some other story?

The idea of a man like Khan and the threats he could pose (particularly in a time not used to dealing with men like him) is interesting, and there should be multiple ways of using a character like him. To that end, I'm just hoping that if it is Khan, the story uses him in a fresh and imaginative way. A third Khan story that goes in its own direction and stands alone from "Space Seed" and especially TWOK.

If it is Kahn I vote for Naveen Andrews or maybe a really ripped Kal Penn. (He would be right age-wise would he not?)

I also love Ajay Naidu. Sendhil R. from Heroes is hot, but the man cannot act.

I don't know enough about Bollywood actors to vote.

Of course if everything I just said about the character being Hispanic is thrown out and the doors are open wide, then one name comes to mind: Ian McShane! ;) But ONLY if he plays Khan in full Al Swearingen mode, of course!
