deg3D_TOS.5 Enterprise

Thanks guys. :)

Ah, and looky there a Johnny Slash avie. Nice one Praetor. :)

Say, my opinion of you just went up a little more. ;)

LOL, Johnny Slash is the original reason I had a braided tail for so long, back when!

Yep: Totally different head. Totally.

Best thing about Square Pegs, eh! Who knew he'd also end up as Kirk's son!

RIP J-Slash dude, totally!

And my opinion of you goes up even more for actually having had a braided tail.

(So when do we get more Enterprise wallpapers? ;))

And mine of you my friend, totally. ;)

Hmmm, we'll see. Doug Drexler invited me to be in the 2011 Star Trek: Ship of the Line calander, so I have to decide what I want to do for that as far as me E goes, so not sure when I'll have any new stuff for posting online.

I am just fnishing up another Trek bird (Ryan Dening's Sacagawea-Class scout), and I have lots more Trek stuff coming up including John Eaves' take on the D7 that he was kind enough to send me. As well as a bunch more of his other genius designs.

Ooh, beautiful. Totally. ;)

Will you be posting them in new threads here, or do I need to dust off my scifi meshes account...?

Personally I'd rather see your ship in that movie, and I'd rather that the movie consist of more than just eye candy, and have a plot that actually made sense.

^This, and Vektor's Constitution appearing as well as another variant of the class. Yes I know, I'm being greedy.

Thanks guys! :)

Yeah, I like the new film, but still would like it more if Matt's E were up there, eh.

There aren't any formal notes, just what the modeller who made the mesh said in an interview and in response to questions he got.

What happened was that when he made the mesh, he put a single tube opening directly between the impulse engine vents. When they animated the mesh for shooting, however, if you watch the torpedoes fire, they appear to be coming from the aft end of the secondary hull, specifically from directly below the white dome (which I THINK is supposed to actually be the approach control room for the shuttle bay).

So you have a choice as to where you want to put the tube: where the modeller intended it to go, or where the FX as aired seem to show it to be. If you choose the latter, I would suggest taking enough liberty with it's placement to move it down to the "fantail" or just below it.

To help you, here's an aft render of the Defiant using the actual mesh posted by Rob Bochune (sp?) over at Hobbytalk. You may have to open an account to view it, but it's free to do so.

As you can see, on this model it's just a small hole. Your "nipple" tube would probably fit, but I still recommend putting it under the fantail (below the "meatball" approach lights. You could even put TWO there if you were so inclined, though the "canon" mesh only has one.
Well, my 2cents...

The "fantail" (under the hangar doors) is an ideal location for some weapons ports (and I've put some on "my take" on the Enterprise). I'm not talking about the pocket underneath, I'm talking about the actual "half-disk" upon which the doors seat.

Why? Well, first off... it's the least "target-shadowed" spot you can choose... only the nacelles fall into the potential firing-arc. Anywhere else (on top next to the dome, or in the "cut-out," for instance) and you have a much smaller potential targeting zone.

Second, this region really doesn't have much else in it. The only thing you "really" need is a set of track-type rails for the doors to slide through, which shouldn't penetrate very deeply into this region. The "landing pattern" lights aren't going to take up much internal volume, and probably NO internal volume.

In my case... I put a single torpedo tube at the centerline, and a pair of phaser banks to either side. Each is under a "sliding door" (the same approach used in the primary hull... explaining why we could never see them in TOS but could see the weapons... and consistent with the M.J. design philosophy of having as much as possible able to be serviced from within the pressurized interior of the ship rather than requiring EVA).

Not wanting to "hijack" but I just wanted to make this a bit more clear, in case you haven't read this in my thread.

Any chances of a few more wallpapers? :D I mean you can't have enough of those IMO. ;)

Busy right now on a gig with John Eaves, building seven of his ship designs for a Shatner project, but I have lots of plans for more E shots when I get the time.

Also, I will be porting my E mesh into LightWave going forward, as LightWave has much better rendering options than modo, which is what all previous renders were made in. I want to obtain a more "cinematic" look with her that I feel I have yet to achieve in modo, and LightWave will allow me to do this. Also, I have to work out a shot for the 2011 SOTL calendar, that will feature John's proto-D7 (D4), that he designed for ENT, but was never used. I started building the D4 before I put it aside to do this gig.

That's a great and logical (IMO) concept, Cary. I will log that idea for further consideration. I have a few details and probably a paint-job tweaking/enhancement that I want to do with my TOS.5 E, to help achieve the aforementioned goal of a more cinematic look for her.
