There's the gender symbol under her avatar too...Ahh. Point well taken then, though I've seen male posters with female avatars and vice versa.I'd guess the one that indicates the sex of Deckerd?Oh? What image is that?

It's a dramatised documentary done by the BBC a few years ago. It was about an international mission to survey the planets of the solar system.I didn't even know those existed. Do I have egg on my face...
Anyway, Space Odyssey, what exactly is that? Is it an educational series or a fictional one or somewhere in-between?
Yeah, too much sex really.
Frankly I thought the model of Space Odyssey was perfectly good enough for a whole season of TV. I would have liked to have seen an educational show that simply used the dramatic storyline as a framework to impart information and create realistic dramatic situations with particular regard to the science.
Absolutely no need for constant interpersonal shenanigans. However, it is what it is, and it is that fairly successfully.
After our Defying Gravity discussion earlier on in the year, I got Space Odyssey. It was surprisingly gripping, well acted and the special effects were very good. The Venus episode had me on the edge of my seat.
I still haven't seen it... Do I need to track it down?
I will be watching it later. After our Defying Gravity discussion earlier on in the year, I got Space Odyssey. It was surprisingly gripping, well acted and the special effects were very good. The Venus episode had me on the edge of my seat.

Yes. You need to track it down. Thoroughly entertaining, and very informative.
Only found one version, it says BBC so I hope it is.^ If you are DLing, try and make sure you get the British version. The American version cuts out the Pluto mission to fit in their silly adverts.
Just bumping this thread as a reminder it starts tonight on BBC Two and HD at 9 and it's 2 episodes.
Just caught the first two episodes (by chance) this evening. Grey's Anatomy In! Spaaaaaaaace!™ is not that far off from what I've seen of it.Well I've not seen it, but since they're describing it as Grey's Anatomy in space I assume there'll be quite a bit of sexual shenanigans going on.Well if it's full of sexual imagery I'll miss it all.
We're doomed.when they first started talking about it they did say they wanted it to be like Lost meets Grey's in spaaaaaace!
There is a series like that, now in its fourth season and still going strong. Amazingly, it doesn't require much more than computer graphics and scientists yakking at the camera in order to make boring old science perfectly entertaining (a lot more entertaining than Defying Gravity ever managed to be). Don't underestimate the entertainment value of the plain ole documentary. Science fact can be fascinating without any sugar coating at all.I would have liked to have seen an educational show that simply used the dramatic storyline as a framework to impart information and create realistic dramatic situations with particular regard to the science.
A lot of unnecessary sugar coating getting in the way of the educational value. The acting and plotline were pretty meh, but not as annoying as Defying Gravity, but certainly not good drama in its own right. They would have been much better off to just focus on one thing and do it well: documentary or drama. Combining them just results in one part half-assed documentary and one part half-assed drama. It still amazes me that anyone would see it as a model for a series (not that Defying Gravity actually was inspired by it in any meaningful sense.)Anyway, Space Odyssey, what exactly is that? Is it an educational series or a fictional one or somewhere in-between?
