Definite New Series/Limited Series with Patrick Stewart Returning

Guys, from what I'm reading, I think Picard in this show isn't going to be quite what we are expecting (from what the producers and Stewart himself said). I think he's going to be a broken down, sad old man. Similar to his character in the movie Logan. So just prepare yourselves.
I'm pretty sure most people understand that Picard is going to have moved on to another phase of life. Stewart has said it, Kurtzman has said it, Frakes has said it. I also thought of Prof X in Logan when this news came out.

I have zero expectations of this doing well. Consider myself prepared.

Picard as a broken down old man ala Logan wouldn't work because there is no Logan type character that we'd care about.

I'm not against him being different, a bit depressed, but it'll be disappointing if they went with the same direction as Prof X in Logan rather than him rediscovering and finding a new purpose. I could do without seeing Picard bleeding out in the back of a pick up truck alone.

Listen to Stewart's speech at Vegas. He was going to turn down the new show, but he was influenced by a policeman who watched TNG to recover from dark and despair of some days. TNG is an optimistic future, and that's the very centre of his statement that "Jean-Luc Picard is back"

I don't see how Picard as a broken down old man fits with that.

I don't really want to see the Star Trek franchise turned into another MCU.
Always wanted to use this one...

So you DON'T want Star Trek to be making billions of dollars yearly and be considered critical and financial success by both fans and critics?

Plus, it was one of the original "MCU's" back in the 90s. TNG, VOY, DS9 and the movies would all reference each other.

Did I say that? ;)

Of course I want new material and for it to be successful. I have yet to see how making half a dozen different series under the current CBS corporate banner guarantees critical and fan love, but hey, to each their own. I just worry about overkill and Hollywood these days rarely seems to understand the concept of "just enough to keep them wanting more."

I love the MCU but if the uneven quality of DSC is any indication I don't know if these suits can run a franchise as well and with as much creativity as the Marvel and Disney suits. I just don't want Trek watered down to the point where we'd be begging for just two concurrent series over a five-year period with 26 episodes per show per season.

It's not MORE Trek, it's getting a lot of subpar Trek that worries me.

In the days of 26 episodes a season there was a lot of sub par trek, you don't tend to remember them.

26x 45 minute episodes a year is a lot of strain on the cast and crew, it makes sense to run 4x13 episode series rather than 2x26 series. If they coincide and occasionally cross over that's great.

This video discusses the news that the new Picard series is one story from the beginning to the end.

I’m thinking it will be made to look like it’s had a number of upgrades from Tourangeau’s original design, having already been in service for many years.

It definitely sounds almost like Dirty Dozen or Kelley’s Heroes in space. Liking what I’m seeing so far.
