One of my favourite Defiant 'upscalings' is the Diligent class by medjai on Scifi Meshes
Seeming the Defiant Pathfinder vehicle has been retconned as becoming the Nova class his design has essentially upsized what the Defiant does into a ship of similar proportions to the original intent but keeping the armoured hull...it even has th movable nacelles mentioned a couple of posts back.
I deffinatly agree that smaller and more numerous can be an advantage when building ships for battle as long as they are in greater numbers than larger ships of the enemy or supporting larger allied vessels.
