DeepDiscount.com - Its November, time for that annual sale

When does it start? What are the discount codes? What are you going to get this year?

The last several years we have a number of members who like to jump on this sale, me included. First one to get the codes I hope you let us all know!!

Make your list and check it twice.

My list of candidates so far:
Watchmen
Sex Drive
Taken
Angel: The Complete Series
BSG: The Complete Series

I'm sure some of your suggestions will cause me to want them also.

Not too difficult to know what I'm getting this time.

Doctor Who: War Games
Doctor Who: Planet of Evil
Doctor Who: Destiny of the Daleks
Doctor Who: The Black Guardian trilogy
Sarah Jane Adventures, season 2

They're the only ones I still need, and three of those either just came out or are coming out next week.

But, it'll probably be another week or two before it starts. The codes include dvdtalk, usatoday, and that's all I remember off the top of my head. It's pretty much guaranteed someone will post details when it goes live.

How big does the sale usually get? What kind of discounts?

It has typically been 20% off any dvds that have been released. In July, they surprised us by giving 25% off.

There are a few other websites, such as dvdplanet.com which will match them. However, you have to be careful here.

Usually, about a month before the sale starts, I start keeping track of the price of the dvds I want. Typically, I'll check each week. Sometimes, they raise the prices. And I mean they raise them so high that the new, discounted rate is still higher than it was before the sale. Other times, like last time, they lower them. The Key to Time boxset is one example ... They lowered the price by ten dollars the day before the sale started. And then I got 25% off that new, lower price. So, bonus.

Another caution is that the popular things go out of stock VERY quickly. They don't charge until they ship, so you may end up with a charge maybe a month or two months down the road, when they get whatever it is back in stock. You still get the discounted price, just, ya know, later.

The sale's also coincided with DVD Planet if you want to do some price comparisons.

Angel: The Complete Series

Amazon's been selling that every now and then as a Gold Box sale for just over $50. And it's not listed on Deep Discount.

Which is the problem with the site.

The site when it was DDD had good prices and a good sale on top of it. Now the prices are insane and even with 25% off most things will be cheaper if you look around. Seasons of Weeds sell for $10-$20 almost all the time, yet DD has them for $30-$40.

Codes for this Deep Discount sale are always the same -- SUPERSALE, USATODAY, NYTIMES, LATIMES, SOUTHSIDE, PRICEGRABBER, SAVE, PRICESEARCH, SUMMERSALE, ESPN, YAHOO, WGN and more -- it's just waiting for said sale to begin!

For DVD Planet it's 25offsale.

House Seasons 3 & 5
Supernatural S4
Homicide LOTS 6 & 7

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Oh, and Clone Wars Season 1 if that's out, I forgot about it.

Big time bad news.

They aren't doing a 20 or 25% off sale this time.

Instead, it's 40% off MSRP of dvds and 30% off MSRP cds and books. Again, that's MSRP, *not* their normal prices.

And that means this sale is no better than Amazon's normal prices.

The "sale" starts Friday. here is a scan of their flier advertising this "sale."

You know, as disappointing as this is, it actually solves a dilemma for me. I can't afford to spend money on DVDs right now, but if they were a good deal, I would do it anyway. This way I'm not compelled to pick up the sets I really want in spite of the fact that I don't have the money.

*determined to find a silver lining* ;)

Good thing I didn't have the money or really need anything always.

Amazon last year price matched everything from every store anyways, and the prices were much much cheaper than DD during it's "sale".

That is disappointing. Oh, well guess I'll have to stimulate the economy with someone who wants my money via a good deal. Thanks for the update.

Huh. Oh well, guess that takes them from being a company who get my business twice a year down to being one who get my business only once a year (if that)...

It's been 25% off for a year now. It's to make up for the fact the site turned into shit.
Exactly!!

They've raised their prices on everything, so with the discount you're still paying regular store prices and the free S/H is bullshit. With the raised prices, you're still paying the S/H fee.

Target is still cheaper.
