Hi all, and Happy New Year! 2020 is finally over, and we all know it was shit, but it did give me the long-awaited opportunity to complete the latest season of screenplays for my DS9Continuing project.
As longtime TrekBBS members may know, I first began thinking about this project way back in the day when the first so-called DS9 Relaunch post-finale novel, Avatar, was released in 2001. So many readers likened the DS9-R stories to a theoretical "season 8" of the DS9 TV show that I thought, "Well then, why not make them season 8 of the TV show?" So I began adapting the novels into screenplays as if they were simply more episodes of our favourite Star Trek series.
And it continued from there. When the first arc of stories concluded with Unity in 2003, I kept going with DS9 Season 9. When the novels fizzled out in 2009 leaving the Ascendant storyline unfinished, I decided to finish the storyline for myself with DS9 Season 10. When the novels returned in 2011 but with an equivalent time gap in story, I filled in more of the missing adventures with DS9 Season 11. When the iconic Destiny trilogy was released without much involvement from the familiar DS9 characters, I explored their role in the apocalyptic Borg Invasion with DS9 Season 12.
The official Pocket novels following that pivotal trilogy did little to reveal the adventures of the crew of Deep Space Nine during the rise of the Federation's latest antagonist, the Typhon Pact. Rough Beasts of Empire followed Sisko on USS Robinson, while A Singular Destiny followed Dax on USS Aventine. But what about everyone else?
And so finally, I reveal for the first time the critically important actions taken by Kira, Ro, Bashir, Tenmei, Shar, Nog, Cenn, Evik, Quark, Candlewood and Matthias in this post-Borg Federation. How does a civilised society respond to such horrifically uncivilised events? And what if unscrupulous parties should try to take advantage of the Federation's wounded state? That is the core of DS9 Season 13 – timely themes as our own world tries to recover from some of the worst events in our history.
Starting tomorrow, I will upload links to each new episode in turn, every Saturday for 22 weeks. Episodes are available in PDF or ebook format for easy reading. In the meantime, all five previous seasons are available on my website DS9Continuing.com, as below:
DS9 Season 8 – "Twist of Faith"
DS9 Season 9 – "Fragments and Omens"
DS9 Season 10 – "Ascension"
DS9 Season 11 – "The Crucible"
DS9 Season 12 – "Destiny"
NOTE: The DS9 Season 13 "cover image" (as seen in my avatar) was originally created by DeviantArt member LeftysComics, with titles added by myself.
