Deep Space Nine Playlists

I was talking with my girlfriend the other day, always trying to get her into Trek... and she said she would agree to watch it if broke up the episodes into playlists to better understand stories and character arcs. For example, my favorite is what I am watching now, which is the obvious Dominion story arc. However, this is a bit broad and takes the longest. Here is my proposed Season 5 Dominion story arc list:

The Ship (references to A Time to Stand)
Rapture (references to By Inferno's Light)
For the Uniform (references to Blaze of Glory)
In Purgatory's Shadow
By Inferno's Light
Soldiers of the Empire

Thats a lot, but the Dominion are referenced the most. I think watching DS9 this way makes it extremely fun and even can make the mediocre episodes seem a bit more appealing. For example of other ideas:

Sisko's spiritual journey (Emissary, Rapture, Sacrifice of Angels, etc.)
Dukat's rise to power and fall:
Maquis episodes

Any other ideas? They could make for good marathons...

Personally... If you're short of time- maybe lose "The Ship." I'm not sure I'd use "Rapture" either- I just skimmed the episode, and since you're doing a Dominion story arc... and maybe lose the first 2 or 3 episodes of season 7- weren't they with Sisko on earth, then looking for an orb or something? Not really "Dominion heavy" were they?
... I'm not sure about "Inquisition" either... I mean, you must know what type of tv she likes, but I might lose the ones about the Prophets and how they tie in until later when she understand the show and likes it and then the Bajoran side can come later? I know that sounds backwards... but just my 2 cents... if you wanna get her hooked.

DS9 would lose a lot by slicing and dicing it into "playlists." By the time you're in the fifth season, things are pretty well interrelated. The Maquis, Klingons, Dominion, Ferengi, and Bajoran storylines all support each other and intertwine to a certain degree.

I can see not wanting to make a seven-season commitment. However, she should know if the concept is appealing after the first two episodes.

The storyline approach is better suited to something like the TNG Klingon episodes or the VOY Borg episodes. In fact, somebody at Paramount already came up with this concept: the Fan Collectives.

I agree that there are alot of potential playlists.

However, my personal favorite includes some of the best episodes of DS9 - what I might refer to as The Enabran Tain Playlist.

Doesn't get any better than: The Wire, Improbable Cause/The Die is Cast, and In Purgatory's Shadow/By Inferno's Light.
