Deck Plan Generations...and Bowling Alleys

Well, I have to go through all of Shaw's published stuff to date, piece together the external views, then fiddle with the internal stuff, see how much I agree with and how much needs more fiddling, and see if that damned bridge can fit under that big pilot dome facing forward.

Well, I WAS gonna start working on this puppy, but it turns out something went wonky and that last pic from Shaw didn't save properly. To add insult to injury, Shaw has deleted that particular pic from his server, so I can't resave it.

Primal scream therapy seems apt...

It is funny, I had logged in the other day to post another image to correct flaws in the previous image. But when I saw what sort of response my adding to that thread had gotten, it seemed pointless to post the corrections. So rather than leave the bad data up, I removed it.

If that thread ever gets re-opened, I'll put back the original image and the one that was supposed to follow it.

I was going to warn you about using that last image, but now I see I don't need to.

Let it go, not worth the aggravation...
Words to live by. :techman:

A certain kind soul, who shall remain nameless, managed to snag the aforementioned pic and pass it along, so I should have some preliminary stuff up soon ("preliminary" meaning that it'll be subject to revision, pending the arrival of more accurate data :vulcan: ).

Ya know, you guys are really strange. :wtf:

Why do you act like there is some need for covert sharing of my work?

The same license that lets April do this project with my work also gives anyone else the right to share, copy and distribute my work. It has been that way from the start.

Back when I needed to remove the images from my server I gave you guys a weeks warning so you could copy any of the images you wanted (and any of you could have hosted them too). Someone had the nerve to call that sour grapes and started digging into my personal affairs to call me out. This after I give you guys a ton of freedoms to use my work, and now you act as though people need some kind of underground channels to share my work?

Lets cover the basics here... All of my plans and sketches have included something like this on them...

license.jpg

... and because most people ignore the fine print, I doubt many of you have looked into this to see what it means. You can find the full definition of it here, but in short this is a share-and-share-alike license. You guys are free to share and adapt that work as you see fit (as long as you give me proper credit and are willing to share your work with others as well).

We have artist around here who hit the ceiling if any of their work is used by anyone else, and here I am making it as easy as possible for you guys to use my work... and you guys have been acting like I'm some awful person for this.

The only thing I don't do is work on demand. If you want something that I haven't already done, you can either pay me to do it or wait until I do it. And I don't need to share anything I don't feel like sharing either... you guys have rights to the work I've published, not the work I haven't. Nor am I obligated to provide copies of my past works.

So this conspiracy stuff where the name of the person was withheld is pointless... I don't care. They could have posted it to this thread if they wanted... I don't care. They have as much right to share my work as April has to use my work... and I don't care.

And the moderators around here should understand, my work is specifically open for this type of stuff, no one is breaking any rules/laws by using or posting my work... they have my permission. And though it shouldn't need stating, April has permission to use my work.

So, to recap... you aren't defying me by sharing my work, you guys have always had the right to do it openly and freely. I hope you guys can finally understand this.

Here's a little something I like to refer to as "Casimiro Corrected"...
Okay... as long as you are going to use that drawing anyways, Casimiro's nacelle placement/connection to the supports was most likely correct. I had divided my nacelles into three sections (front, middle, rear) to work on some of the smaller details. I didn't reintegrate them correctly for that drawing (which was why I didn't leave it up).

Also, I haven't actually done anything for the hangar deck yet... so any details beyond the undercut curve should be ignored (they were only doodles from a year ago, and was why they weren't included in previous sketches I had published).

Like I said... that image included a lot of errors. This was the first time I had revisited that work after spending the last few months only looking at the 33 inch Enterprise.

The beauty of this design is that it maintains the modular nature of the phaser, and based upon a closer examination of Jefferies' original design sketch of the Phaser II, is very much in keeping with the original concept, that to form the rifle, the pistol would be snapped into a rifle mount.

And, with the capability of stacking the power packs, we can go from the assault version pictured above, to something more of a sniper version here...

Very cool idea. I really like the power packs in the stock. I'm assuming that the stock would actually wrap around the back of the pistol?

I'd make the emitter look a little beefier, less like it was snapped off the pistol and reattached to the front of the the extension. Notice how much larger the emitter and associated dish were on the rife in WNMHGB. Don't just plop that emitter on this just make it a little larger and less like the pistol emitter.

Great work. I could really see something like this in TOS.

Not bad. I think something similar was done on New Voyages/Phase II's last episode Blood and Fire, although that one looked like they took pieces of the standard phaser and stuck them on a new, longer body. You should add pieces of the WNMHGB rifle to your design, see how that looks. :bolian:

The Phase II version looks, to me at least, like a TOS version of the TNG phaser rifle, which I never really warmed up to. Plus, it's not what was described in TMoST or the Writer's Guide, the Phaser II snapped into a rifle mount.

Anyway, I showed my version to both Bjo Trimble and Mike Okuda. Both thought it looked good, with Mike saying that although he didn't think Matt Jefferies ever got around to drawing up the phaser rifle concept depicted above, what I cooked up is probably along the lines of what he would've come up with (which I took as pretty high praise :D ).

Bjo mentioned that while the idea was played around with, it was never finished, and Roddenberry decided he didn't like the idea of a bigger, badder phaser after all and the concept was abandoned.
