December Art Challenge - Starscape

Looks pretty good. I like the rendering, was tempted to do something similar with mine.

One thing that jumps out at me is the hand in the left lower corner. Its unclear as to who's hand it is since it just pops up from the bottom. I would try to work out some way of showing who it belongs to.

Oh, and definitely change the name. ;-)

Very nice! Looks like something you'd see on the shelf!

I better get crackin' since two of my idea's have been taken...both prequels to this ep and Doomsday Machine. Oi vey!

Interestingly enough, all entries so far, except for the Kelvin idea, are from the original Trek. Which is where mine will prolly come from because it's the one I'm most familiar with.

What program is the book mesh for?

Thanks! :)

This Trek Art Forum does tends to have a signifigant proportion of TOS related art. I've, recently, started watching TOS-R for the first time so it's fresh in my mind.

I created the mesh using Anim8or.

Thanks, guys! :bolian:

Here's an update, with the new name and I've tried to correct that orphaned hand too.

Hmm, I'm still getting the floating hand visual from this. The distortion due to the fact that it's the closest thing to the "camera" doesn't help either.

Yeah, that's definitely part of the problem, the hand doesn't seem so noticable in 2d.

That being the case, can you lose the hand? I understand that might be problematic if the hand is in one of the pictures, but it is an option.

Option #2 is to move the hand closer to whichever character you think it belongs. Further to the right for Dr. Corby (sp?) or further up for Ruk.

I prefer Option #1, but Option #2 may work as well.

YMMV

^^ The hand is part of Ruk's image. And knowing that, it doesn't quite look so out of place to me, but I can understand why it might to others.

I had considered removing the hand (poor Ruk), or covering it up. I'll give it some more thought. Thanks for the input. :bolian:

Awesome Novel covers :) :techman:

Thanks.

Yeah, see I totally thought the hand belonged to the other guy, like he was reaching out or something.

I know that feeling, there's been some novel covers that have taken me a while to figure out. :alienblush:

I want to keep the hand, if possible. I think it helps to define the image of Ruk emerging from behind a rock (as he is in the original image I used). Unfortunately, the rock looks very similar to Ruk's shirt...

I've tried to alter things in an attempt to make the different elements of the Ruk image tie together better:

Much better, if somewhat...suggestive. :alienblush:

The coloring/shading change makes all the difference in the world.

I like this a lot.
