STAR TREK
Created by Gene Roddenberry
The USS ENTERPRISE, with Captain Kirk in command, streaked through warp-space as fast as it could. Kirk had his eyes on the main viewing screen, watching the stars streak by at most incredible speeds.
He listened as the Bridge crew were doing their duties, and coordinating their efforts with Mr. Spock, who was at his science post, and with Uhura, who was at her post as well; communications.
Kirk stood up and walked over to the engineering post, where Scotty was busy monitoring the engines as best as he could.
“Scotty,” Kirk said softly to his engineer.
Scotty looked, “Cap’n,” Scotty pleaded with his eyes, “she’s givin’it all she’s got!”
Kirk nodded, “Push her Mr. Scott: push her as best as you can. If you have to take us off of life-support. Throw every thing you can at those engines.”
Scotty shook his head, “Aye, sir,” Scotty said. “If we arrive suffocated to death, me-a-guessin it will have no bearing on will come next for us.”
Kirk nodded, and then walked past the front of the Bridge. He stared down at first Sulu, then Chekov, and was proud of how the two young crew members were faring during this crisis. But this was something they had to do, and they all knew it.
The turbo-lift doors opened, and Dr. McCoy came on to the Bridge, along with a Horta. The Horta was still baring the bandages that McCoy had applied to it.
“Bones,” Kirk said, standing just to the right of Chekov’s post. “What are you doing on the Bridge.”
McCoy smiled, “Well, Jim,” McCoy said, “Our Horta friend here burned a message into my deck telling me that she missed seeing Spock’s ears. So, I brought her here so she could see them in action.”
The Horta came out of the lift and rumbled over to where Spock was sitting, doing his duties.
“I just hope she doesn’t burn the deck.” Uhura said.
“No,” McCoy said, “I told her that the Captain might not appreciate that.”
The turbo-lift opened again, and this time Baylok and Harry Mudd came out of the turbo-lift.
“Kirk!” Mudd yelled as he and the much shorter Baylok came on to the bridge. “Why is it I can not find any Imorpiam Brandy in your retched mess hall. I’m getting sick and tired of Tranya!”
Spock turned his head toward the Turbolift. “Mr. Mudd,” Spock said, before the Captain could respond, “Imorpiam Brandy has been outlawed through-out the Federation.”
“Spock’s right,” Kirk said to Harry Mudd, “Besides,” Kirk said as he looked to Baylok, “I think Tranya is tasty.”
Baylok smiled. “Thank you Captain,” Baylok said, “great minds think alike.”
“Maybe if it had some Brandy with it, I would like Tranya.” Mudd said softly.
“Would you care for a nip of scotch whiskey?” Scotty asked from his post.
Mudd nodded, “That might be just what it needs.”
Before another word could be said, the Turbolift opened again and Khan Singh stepped onto the bridge.
“Kirk, my old friend,” Khan said, “I have searched your ship and for the life of me I can not find anyone who knows anything about where to find a good tailor.”
“I thought I had one of the yeomen send you directions to the uniform shop.” Kirk said to his nemesis.
“They never came, and you know how much I hate being lost.” Khan said softly.
“Then you should just close your ears,” Chekov said, “since you don’t seem to use them that well. I told you, when I was a yeoman two years ago and we bumped into each other in the head: that the uniform shop was on Deck-7.” Chekov said from his post.
“Ahhh, yes,” Khan said. “I remember that bathroom fondly. The handrails were made of Corinthian Leather.”
“Get out of the way,” McCoy said, from where he stood beside Kirk’s chair, “someone’s coming out of the lift.”
Khan moved forward to make room, as the bridge was becoming crowded. Coming out of the lift this time was Captain Pike, sitting in his bulky chair.
“I’m glad you could make it Chris,” Kirk said, waving from the command chair.
The light flashed one time in agreement.
Spock came over, stood behind Pike’s chair, and pushed him onto the bridge and over to an area near the science station.
“Okay,” Kirk said to everyone, “are we all here?”
“I think so, Captain.” Sulu said as the oriental helmsman counted a list of names on a piece of paper.
“We have arrived at the coordinates,” Chekov said.
“Take us out of Warp,” Kirk said to Sulu.
The USS ENTERPRISE came out of warp..
“Is everyone ready??” Kirk asked out loud to the gathering on the bridge.
“Yes, Jim, we’re all ready!!” McCoy said in an excited voice.
“Then, I want everyone to smile!” Kirk replied.
“That would be most logical,” Spock added.
Suddenly, they saw the eyes of a very large man.
--
President Barak Obama sat at his desk, for the very first time, on January 20 2009. The President always gets to decorate their desk the way they seem fit. For Ronald Reagan, it was a cup of Jelly-beans. For Bill Clinton it was cigars, very special cigars. For George W Bush it was a seldom, if ever used, dictionary.
But for Barack Obama it was a special ornament that his wife, Michelle, had ordered from EBAY. It was part of an auction on a website called TREKBBS. It was like one of those glass globes you turned upside to cause the snow to fly around a house, causing a miniature snow storm. But, in this case, it was stars that surrounded a tiny replica of the USS ENTERPRISE. The person who had hand crafted it, someone named T’bonz, actually told her that the entire crew of the Enterprise, Kirk and crew, and assorted famous guest characters, were gathered all together, so as to be a gift for the new President.
Barack stared down at the little glass globe, having put it next to the bust of Abe Lincoln. He was just about to leave when, at the last moment, he decided to see what the stars looked like. He put his hand on the globe, and prepared to flip it upside down, so the stars would stream around the ship.
Kirk arched his eye brows as the giant hand reached out and grabbed the glass structure that surrounded the ship. He knew what was going to happen, and he hoped everyone had prepared. The hand flipped the globe upside down, and everyone fell to the ceiling of the bridge as they were flipped upside down.
At last, in that action of falling upside down, Kirk finally solved the mystery of the universe. It was the one question that had bugged him all these years while commanding the NCC-1701. Did Uhura wear undergarments?
The End…
