Dec '08 Challenge-Time As A Guiding Star

OK, all, since Christmas is coming I decided a gift was in order. Sadly, I'm self-centered, so the gift is for me. ;)

I like time-travel and alternate universe stories so this month that's what we're gonna do.

Write a time-travel story or an alt universe story-and by alt universe, please don't think you are limited to the Mirror Universe of TOS and DS9-create your own if you want. BUT-if you do that-make it distinct. A TOS story with Kirk parting his hair in the other direction is BORING! Be creative!

That having been said, it's time to introduce the CHALLENGE part of the whole theme. You have to incorporate an icon or symbol of Christmas into your story in some way. It doesn't have to be physical-the spirit of giving can't be held in your hands but it is surely a symbol of Christmas! I apologize in advance to any non-Christians, but as stated, this is a gift for me;) and I grew up with the Christian holiday.

PS-If anybody re-writes the Gift Of the Magi-well, it fits the rules but, c'mon, its a cheap and easy heart-wringer. Let's put the nose to the grindstone and be creative! Good luck, everyone! And Merry Xmas!:techman:

Ha! Forget Gift of the Magi. I can haul the Mirror!Scott (pre-Empire-capture) out for this one.

Well I only got half a November story wrote, and RL has been so intense of late that I didn't even get a chance to read all the entries and vote/ Sorry guys :(

That said I'm gonna try real hard to get an entry in for this one!

When is the closing date and what's the word limit btw?

Unless I get spectacularly more organised, I doubt I'll manage to write an entry but this sounds like a great challenge - can't wait to read the stories.

Usual rules-make it about 3000 words(no, the Word Police won't come after you if you use a few extra!) and lets say the end date for submission is 31st at midnight.

All right...provided the time to actually get it written to my liking, I have a couple different things I could do with this one. We'll see...

you might wanna define what you mean by 'christmas symbols'...

stars are a bit vague given, you know, SPACE and all...

do santa hats count?

reindeer?

sleigh bells?

christmas pop songs?

christmas trees?

candy canes?

I'm guessing any of the above.

I don't think it's right to enter your own challenge(my take entirely, not a rule) but I have an idea that came to me-I don't know what to do. I'm thinking of posting but not putting myself in the poll-would anybody have a problem with that?

Why wouldn't it be okay to enter your own challenge? You have just as much oppotunity of winning or losing as any other challenger, and as the readers are the ones voting you really can't exert any undue influence to 'rig' the voting.

I'd say go for it, but that's just my $0.02

Yeah there's no reason not to enter your own, you might get more thinking time but its not going to affect the outcome much.

Enter the challenge, Mistral. :-P Even if you posed it, we're the voters.

:guffaw:Thinking time? I have a 2 1/2 year old. Its been 24 months since I've had a more complex thought than-what time can we put the boy to bed? or What is that smell?:guffaw:

OK, but I have a doozy of an idea! You have been warned!:techman:
