"Death Wish", Q's lipstick and getting home

I saw "Death Wish" again a couple of days ago. It was a good episode. I'm not sure where Janeway got "self appointed guardians of the galaxy" from to describe the Q continuum, and Riker's cameo was pointless, but otherwise great.

But what's up with Q's purple lipstick? I don't recall seeing it on him before or since - or have I just never noticed it until now?

And why didn't Janeway ask either Q to send them home? Pride? Should she have put out with Q in an effort to get everyone home? Made it a condition that they're sent home after the trial's over?

"The hell you will. The vaunted Q Continuum. Self-anointed guardians of the universe. How dare you come aboard this ship and endanger this crew with your personal tug-of war."


People and things are anointed to symbolize the introduction of a sacramental or divine influence, a holy emanation, spirit, power or god. It can also be seen as a spiritual mode of ridding persons and things of dangerous influences, as of demons believed to cause disease or affliction.


I believe Janeway is making the accusation with sarcasm. It's one of my favorite lines (see sig). The Q think very highly of themselves and treat "bipedal species" as though they are inferior and constantly remind them of it by putting them in dangerous situations and then saving them from the disaster.

Didn't Q have some sort of lightly tinted purple lipgloss in "Encounter at Farpoint" and then again in "All Good Things?" When he was wearing the judge's outfit?

Well, I wouldn't trust the misguided Q, since he screwed up trying to kill himself, and just caused all the men to disappear.

"Our" Q already made it clear that going home was contingent upon her ruling in the continuum's favor, which she did not do.

And she couldn't have asked the other Q to send them home before he became Human, or whatever the hell species he decided to turn into when becoming Quinn?

Yes, yes he did. I thought he wore it all through TNG, actually?

The Q judges in Q2 also wore the purple lipstick.

de Lancie only wore the dark lipstick when in the judges robes. I don't recall him wearing it while as "regular" Q, i.e. in the Starfleet uniforms, etc. That didn't start till he showed up here on Voyager.

Riker's cameo was kind of cool, I thought. I loved the way he reacted when he saw Q again.

Wasn't Q judging all of mankind thru Picard on whether man had the right to explore the galaxy?

Seems like they appointed themselves.
