Deadline: Trek 2 May Be Pushed to Holiday 2012

It would be nice if the fans were given some positive news at ComicCon. ie. official confirmation that Abrams will direct

Didn't the priciples sign on to do three movies? If that is the case, why has it taken this long to review the Original Series for ideas, to try and find an idea for this script? I would've started on it the day the Original Script for the 2009 movie was complete.

And why is JJ dragging his feet? It's been a month since his last project was released.

Leave it to Trek fans to hate their own movie.
The reboot was a huge hit. Virtually everyone I know says as far as they're concerned it made even the good Star Wars movies look bad.
The sequel has a good chance of holding its own against the Hobbit and Superman. With a good week or two between releases, it'll have plenty of time to dominate and rake in the bucks. Whether it beats The Hobbit or not (and it has a serious chance), as long as they deliver a good part deux people will see it in droves.
I actually think poor Superman is probably going to be the loser. Zack Snyder hasn't exactly impressed people with his last few movies. I kind of doubt a crash course in superhero film making from Chris Nolan is going to help much.

It's going to be better in the summer? The Dark Knight Rises? Spidermand Re-boot? 2012 is going to be a huge year for films.

At this point, I'd be happy with any official news at Comic-con. It's like they've totally forgotten about it.

No reason to think that. Star Trek is what everyone's working on now. Of course, it should be pointed out that the studios have to set up these panels, and as TrekMovie.com accurately pointed out there aren't too many widely anticipated movies with panels this year (Dark Knight Rises, etc.) Plus, what is the panel going to be on? "Well, we can't tell you anything at this point as it's a secret and a work in progress. You already know it will feature this cast. Well good night guys!" Thus, they would have taken out time from working on the script to tell us that, which people don't want at this point.

A question for the writers. Of course you could answer your question by looking at Fringe, Cowboys & Aliens, Hawaii 5-0, Super 8, etc. for your answers.

I would've started on it the day the Original Script for the 2009 movie was complete.
Which, as any professional would tell you, would have been one of the worst things you could do. Why would you write the sequel to something you haven't been committed to (and before you say it, they weren't put on retention until shortly BEFORE the film came out) or don't even know is going to be made when you can work on projects that ARE guaranteed?

And why is JJ dragging his feet? It's been a month since his last project was released.
Who said he was?

At least it's official. November 30th seems like a good time to release it next year. I'm just happy they've officially told us when they plan to start shooting.

Well Paramount has made official what we all knew was coming. The Star Trek sequel has been officially delayed and will not be released on June 29, 2012. Paramount has now put their second G.I. Joe film into that slot, but they have not yet picked the date for the Star Trek sequel.

Paramount has yet to pick a new release date for the Star Trek sequel which should start shooting in January 2012. TrekMovie sources indicate that a decision has not been made and that it is in the hands of Paramount. The Star Trek team are ready for either of the choices on the table: holiday 2012 or summer 2013. A decision and announcement on that and on JJ Abrams directing should come in August.

Can I just say WTF? Who the hell's going to wait four years between Star Trek movies?

Everyone who wants to watch the movie?

There was a three-year wait between TUC and Generations, four years between Insurrection and Nemesis (I'm pretty sure that the poor turnout for the latter wasn't because people got tired of waiting) and six-and-a-half years between Nemesis and the most recent one. Those who are interested in seeing it will show up when it's time.
