Dead Rising

Odd question for everyone, but what deceased Trek characters (from any series or movie) would you love to have either seen more of or see come back (thanks to a parallel universe, or some other such handy plot twist)?

For me, I would have to say Natasha Yar (TNG S1), Lieutenant Hawk (STFC), and Ensign Hoya (DS9 "The Ship"). Yar because she was never developed and could have been such a strong feisty character, Hawk because he was just damn fine , and Hoya for no reason other that I quite like Benzites.

I rather liked Ilia and Decker but Hawk (he was too pretty to live) and Yar would have been cool - I wanted an older Yar to appear as part of the Romulan underground. Lon Suder and Seska could have been interesting cell mates. Trip can stay dead, although I wished he'd got a better death, like Wash in Firefly.

I was never a fan of bringing back parallel universe Yar's daughter the way they did, but I really like Pauln6's idea of old Yar being a part of the underground. That wouldn't have seemed so contrived to me, and would have made a point for the character.

Other deceased who I would have really liked to have seen more would also be Decker and Ilia. (I guess I really agree with Pauln6.)
Also, I really liked the character of Stadi on Voyager's pilot episode. She would have been a great long term character who would have given Paris a challenge the whole series.

Yeah - Stadi was cool - but betazoids as a species are an ill thought out mess. They would have needed to tone down her telepathy somehow.

Tasha grew living on the run, hiding from the rape gangs as a child - dodging Romulans would have been a breeze! Or at least it would have been in character. Camping it up as Sela must have been a hoot for Crosby but I still think they did Tasha a disservice by killing her off screen.

For the longest time, I actually thought Paris called her "Zadi" as (since she was a Betazoid) some kind of cheesy, cute pet-name. Though, I got to think that's where the name came from.

For me the one answer would be K'Ehleyr. I think killing her off was a huge mistake of wasted potential.

K'Ehleyr would be my second choice--there were a lot of stories left to be told with her.

My first choice? Captain Robau, of course. I understand that there's a list of facts about him on another forum somewhere around here.

Hey, in the Prime Universe, Robau's probably still alive - Death is too afraid of him to try and tell him that his time is up.

Let's see, K'Ehleyr is always a good option, just purely out of how it's SUZIE PLAKSON, but also how she managed to deliver a much needed kick in the pants to the TNG crew.

Also, I'd like to have kept Ensign Hogan around on Voyager - poor guy deserved better than to become literal worm food in a split second in the teaser of Basics Part II.

Suzie Plakson was so cooool. I think it was a case of them not having a long term story arc planned out. Alexander's role could have been the same if she'd lived. A lot of dramas have obsessions with killing the wives and girlfriends so the male characters can emote. It's very tiresome, especially if the women are more interesting than the men.

Robau also beats Hawk on the handsome stakes. Any actors that are better looking than the leads have to die. Shatner got that written into Trek lore at an early stage.

Plakson was a big part of it, but the writing for the character was some of the best in all of Trek--perhaps after Garak. But I think it was just such a perfectly harmonious combination of the two. Both Plakson and Robinson gave their characters a unique voice that was really easy to write for, so, in turn, the writers could just churn out the snappy dialog at will.

Along those lines, I think Ballard/Rhodes had the same kind of potential. Unfortunately, Ashes to Ashes really didn't offer a alternative ending that would have allowed her to stick around without being way too convoluted.

Hawk probably just ticked the gay box on the application form so the ship filled its quota for the month, the same way Sulu ticked the str8 box so he could fill the Asian quota, and Rand filled the conehead quota. Staffing a ship is a bureacratic nightmare, especially when blue skin clashes with all the curtains in ship's stores - it's why the records officers often go insane.

Blame Michael Dorn for K'Ehleyr's death. He's the one that told Ron Moore and Rick Berman that he couldn't see Worf killing Duras for anything less than the murder of K'Ehleyr, and Moore and Berman ran with it.

I'm with Jeff Combs on the matter of Weyoun - if you think that the Dominion doesn't have his genetic profile at some cloning lab back in the Gamma Quadrant, you're sorely mistaken.

Gary Mitchell - he just has an awesome backstory in the books.

Jack Crusher - I get the feeling this guy was a badass.

Seska - One of my fave villians...so manipulative, played Chakotay like a fiddle.

Captain Garrett - Such a shame to see her get killed off so fast.

Dukat is not dead...


Damar and Weyoun were great, but a) the show was over anyway, and 2) I think they both had dramatically satisfactory endings...though it would be interesting to see Damar coping with everything post-war, however that's a moot point since the show was ending.

I was watching Nemesis again the other day and remembered that the ending just gets me really annoyed. Data sacrifices himself for Picard and the Enterprise and Earth, and then at the end B4 shows that the memory transfer was successful and he has all of Data's memories and experiences, therefore cheapening Data's death!

Grrr!!!

Anyways, some good people being suggested here.

As for Robau vs Hawk, I'm not saying the good Captain isn't hot, but I'd rather have Hawk if given the choice!
