Dead Companions?

Peri's dead. That was the intent with the scene. She's dead. Toast. Fried.

You're going to believe the Inquisitor of Gallifrey? Please.

Also dead:

Katarina "airlock a-go-go"
Sara Kingdom "turned to dust"
Adric "never know if he was right"
Kamelion "killed in cold blood by The Doctor"
Romana "burned like the Earth"
Susan Foreman "I was a father once"
Dodo Chaplet "sent to the countryside"
Jamie "wiped"
Zoe "wiped"
Donna "wiped"

Yeah, how do you get this "Donna dies" business? If you're talking about "Turn Left", I don't suppose that can really count since the "real" Donna is still alive at the end. What dies is an "alt Donna".

To be fair, Alt Donna took the experience of the real Donna down with her. One of the Doctor's reasons for having a companion is so that the companion learns and grows in some way, and all that work went down the drain.

More of a 'death of personality' sort if thing.

Personality makes us who we are :) Look at poor John Smith from Human Nature!

Peri lived, per cheesy clip in Colin Baker's final episode. From what I understand, Nicola Bryant was pretty pissed they retconned her death out at the last minute. She wanted Peri to go out in a unique way, instead of 'Oh she's in love'. On the other hand, it was a nice note that the character fell for someone (Brian Blessed) that was louder and more bombastic than Colin's Doctor. Personally, I always felt Peri's character got shafted in terms of any true evolution or examination. I know back in the day the companions were never the focus. But, for some reason, Peri's character just seemed more one-dimensional than most others...

I'm in full audio mode right now. Sorry.

The last story of Erimin, the Egyptian princess that tagged along with Peri and the 5th Doctor for quite some time, ran off to marry some king bloke, and at the end when the Doctor is feeling all melancholy and deserted, Peri says "Don't worry, I'll never desert you to go live as royalty." ...So I'm not sure if that means that Nicola despite playing Peri in the audio stories for a nearly a decade now on and off has made her piece with how they will do her in?

I was listening to "The Last" last night and the 8th Doctor was getting mind bent by by some psychic mumbo jumbo, where upon he's assaulted by images of katrina and Adrik. Although he calls Katrina "that Trojan girl" and he calls Adrik "Adrik", so we can see exactly how little effect that her passing has had on him over time...

Although in Audio land, and DVD claymation extras land, Adrik didn't die in Earthshock.

in the recent The Boy That Time Forgot it was revealed he didn't die and instead became worshiped by of a group of sentient scorpions. By the time the Doctor crosses paths with him again he's in his old age (and played by Andrew Sachs), intent on revenge on the Doctor for abandoning him, and wants Nyssa as his bride. However the scorpions revolt and Adric dies saving them.

Romana could have returned to e-space, if the Master could survive undetected it's quite possible others did.

Going by recent audios the Companion Chronicles have suggested Jamie & Zoë's mindwipes may not have been completely successful.

It will be interesting to see they reveal the fates of Barbara Wright & Ben Jackson's fate in Ian Chesterton or Polly's stories

Tegan also met up with the Doctor one last time, with a terminal condition

Jaimie's memory came back after he was struck by a bolt of lightning.

What did you say?

A bolt of lightning!

1.21 Gigawatt's trumps Timelord shenanigans.

It rewrites history to have him live, just to kill him off again. Just wonderful.

Yeah...I think it would have had more impact as a story if they had gotten Matthew Waterhouse to reprise the role...

Matthew lives in America. Bringing him over for a couple days was outside Big Finishes Budget.

They got Andrew Saches instead.

Manuel from Fawlty Towers.

donna was never wiped, just blocked. that's why she is being prevented from remembering. she's been changed forever, part time lord. technically she's the 11th (or 12th if you count the regen/split of tenant) doctor.

shit.

I just figured out to fix donna.

Convert her into part Ood.

It's been done before with Darling.

But if she's concerted into a very special sort of DonnaDoctorOod that vomits more than a couple extra brains out of her mouth at the moment of final transformation... Well, she might just have the server space to properly store and utilize a TimeLord consciousness.

I wonder if she could see time like how the Doctor described ni the Fires of Pompei?

wow that sounded trippy lol.

and yes, i think she could which is why her human half couldn't handle it. she knew everything the doctor did. they had the same memories and knowledge.

would be nice way to bring in the rani. to try and experiment on donna and get all that knowledge stored in her. would be an interesting special if they ever revisit donna again.

If Donna is genuinely a Time Lord, presumably she will eventually regenerate when she pops her clogs. At which point, rather than trying to explain it to those around her, the obvious thing might be to change her identity and choose a new name... like say River Song... ;)
