What did you think of New Years Evil oh so long ago?

So, it is really .1, .2, .3, .4 issues? I might stick to buying the mini-series this month.
New Years Evil was gimmicky but wasn't it a fifth week "event?" I know it didn't replace the regular books. I bought a few.
Wiki admits that I was a 5th week thing, but except for Incredible Hulk and Cerebus, I still bought all my comics third hand, 2 years later from the bus depot at that point in my life, so fith week shmift week.
I found most of them in the 1/4 bin... Except Prometheus which I bought 10 years later for double price online.

Keep in mind this is to "celebrate" or mark the "second anniversary" of the relaunch. This is supposed to be like the Zero Issues from last year. Villains Month though is going a little bit overboard, and I think Bleeding Cool stated that there will be 56 issues shipping. Also supposed to tie into the "Forever Evil" mini-series by Johns and Finch.
That being said I'm actually looking forward to some of these.

Many sound like fun, as they flashback to the origins of the villains. Which also means we get to see what the heroes were up to back then.
I'm most looking forward to the New 52 introduction of General Zod. Also I think Lex escapes his prison in his issue of Action Comics as well. The Brainiac issue could be interesting.
Lex Luthor should not want to Escape his prison. While they think that he's trussed up, he's in hog heaven for freedom running about in that teletransmitted clone meat doppleganger.
His lawyer gets him out and Lex fires him. And by fire I mean kill.
I don't like this new Lex Luthor becuase I don't understand him because he doesn't have a natural graduated development.
New 52 Lex is a little underdeveloped. Morrison I think had him addressed as "Dr. Luthor" his "Action Comics" run but either that was ruse on Lex's part or some kind of ego thing, or it's been dropped or ignored by Lobdell, Daniel. etc. Still is pretty interesting though. I was surprise to see him apparently escaping from prison because he seemed to be precisely where he wanted to be.
The Mad Thinker over at Marvel spent years in Prison using the same ruse.
Prometheus was good and a good set-up for an interesting character (that was ultimately wasted, but not until later on).
Gog was interesting, but pure set-up for The Kingdom, which ruined Kingdom Come.
Those were the only ones I read.
And they were probably the only ones worth reading, but that Mxyzptlk cover is worth a snigger.
Focussing on a villain (Deadpool and the Punisher qualify.) fouls up whatever moral compass you're you're supposed to be working with (Howard the Duck in a pinch) and should deliver unpredictable story telling.
Making the Trickster the STAR of Underworld Unleashed was genius.
Then of course Amazing Spider-Man right now is all about a villain being in driving seat, and he's really become caught up in the hero game... Although, if he was truly evil, Otto should have put a ring on Mary-Jane's finger.

That's what this kind of reminds me of. I wonder if "Forever Evil" is meant to be a kind of updated "Underwolrd Unleashed"?
Which is what made Villains United and Secret Six so great. The best stories from those were when they were fighting against other villains. Though the "Batman Reborn" story was great also, each honoring Batman in their own way.
If you're telling a story about villains getting new powers and focus on the heroes, it's bland. If you tell the story of the greatest trick the Trickster ever played, it gets interesting.
Finally Soranik Natu gets something to do in the New 52. She's long been a favorite character of mine, and gets a scene with Salaak, another favorite. It would have been a tragedy had they not addressed how she's dealing with the destruction of Korugar.
I agree about "Superman: Unchained #1". It didn't disappoint, typical Jim Lee artwork, and Snyder surpassed my expectations and any doubts that he could handle writing Clark. He does so fantastically. Same with the supporting cast.
So I'm finally thinking of taking a hiatus from GL trades after the Wrath arc ends, and now they're bringing her back?
