DC's New 52: Reviews and Discussion (Spoilers welcolme and likely)

Yeah, that's pretty much my only complaint with comixology (where I get all but Dark Horse's comics). Although, it appear DH's work the same way. I wouldn't think it would be that hard to simply set up a ITunes type program for comics.

I was wondering the same thing, how can the Owls' buildings still be around after the earthquake? They said only Wayne-built buildings were earthquake-proofed and survived. But I suppose you could futz and say it wasn't just Bruce Wayne who proofed the buildings but his ancestors as well...

I've been catching up on Bat comics lately and I do recall hearing an earthquake reference recently, but it might have been in the pre-52 Synder issues...

Personally I think when we reach September DC will be doing the same numbers they were doing pre-relaunch.

Really? :guffaw:

I'm purely digital these days. The closest comic shop is an hour away from me, so it's really not practical to go there every Wednesday. The fact that I can sit down at my computer and get my comics there the same day every week is fantastic.

Same here; I'm not buying dead tree comics now.

Yeah. Marvel has much more interesting things on the horizon right now in my opinion, and unless DC has something else up it's sleeve and if these Watchmen 2 prequel thingys happen I don't really see them really continuing to dominate...but like I said I maybe proven wrong. It'll be interesting to see.

I've become more and more interested in digital comics. It really does seem like the future right now. I only really do have a few physical comics now. I also wait for the trades.

Honestly, the comic book shop is becoming increasingly antiquated. Besides sometimes being a nerd meeting place, it serves no function. Single issues? I can get them online the same day. Trades? Always dollars cheaper online Collectibles? Also always dollars cheaper online. They are simply one more industry that cannot compete in an increasingly digital world. They need to adapt, or die. Price more competitively. Give me reason to go there instead of using the far cheaper alternatives. If I waited a year for the trade paperback, I can wait a few extra days for it to ship and save myself a lot of money. Why should I buy that new DC Direct Green Lantern figure at your store when I can get it for $5.00 cheaper at BBTS?

The people that still need to go to comic book shops are the comic collectors, which are a small niche of a niche hobby. How do you attract the people like me who don't care about collecting the books, but just want to read cool stories about Batman and Green Lantern and the Flash, etc. How do you attract Joe Normal off the street who doesn't know Captain Marvel from Mar-Vell, or wonders why the Justice League never gets Spider-Man and Captain America to join?

I hate reading stuff like novels on a computer screen, so I'm not going to make that jump to Comixology. Fuck that. Also, I like going to the comic shop. It is somewhat calming there, the people are nice, and I'm willing to give them my business for single issues.

Re: AdmiralYoung: If the article is accurate, I largely agree with you. DC titles are already plummeting it seems. They got their boost, but its clearly not going to hold, unless they have something else up their sleeve.

I'm a collector too and I enjoy going to the comic shop. It's a neat place, I like looking through the back-issues, and chatting with the owner of the shop. Yes, trades and anthologies and be found vastly cheaper on Amazon, but for single-issue comics the cover price is pretty much going to be it period. Comic shops have businesses to run and can't "price more competitively." They have overhead. Amazon does not.

I also hate the notion that comic shops (businesses that employ people) are no longer needed. If comic shops went out of business then tens or hundreds of people in cities would be unemployed.

Reading a comic on a eReader or computer is just not going to be satisfying to me.

Wow, you guys still have a comic book store around?! Mine went out of business a year ago. The closest one is about 45 minutes away. Sadly enough, I don't even have a regular bookstore within 30 minutes of me either!

I tried going digital a few months ago but then I realized that I couldn't download anything. I'm not going to pay for access to content on a server. When I can download actual issues, I'll be happy to go digital.

Batgirl #4: I loved the idea of an app that criminals can use to let eachother know where Batman is. Have you seen Batman? Just hit a button on your phone, indicating his location. Modern tech is catching up with Bats. The only thing I don't like about Batgirl is that she doesn't come off like a frightening creature of the night. She's just a young woman, acting like a regular person, but in a costume. Still a great title though and I like how well they're fleshing out Barbara as a person.

Firestorm #4: This title continues to intrest me with Firestorm protocols being sold to various governments and whatnot, allowing anyone to become a Firestorm, including bad guys.

Green Lantern: New Guardians #4: I love this title. Like I said before... A team made up of Lanterns from all the corps? Great idea. I wonder how the Orange Lantern will work though, given that Larfleeze is the only member.

To be honest I'm surprised we haven't heard any news about the first round of cancellations yet...
Agreed.
I saw the new Previews and solicits for issue #7s of all titles were out there.
Yes even Voodoo and Grifter.

I'm sure it's about where you live so maybe I'm just unique but within 30 minutes I can be at 4 different LCS stores.

r.
That's because she isn't Batman and isn't trying to be.

...which is actually the main reason for the reboot (according to my comic shop owner, anyway). DC was starting to release comics online on the same day as in the stores, and they figured people would have an easier time jumping on the online train if the comics all started from number 1s.

me i love a comic book you can hold on to. feel in your hand. you not any power to read it! all you need is light to see it and on a sunny day it you need ! this digital comic clap will come and go! Long live the paper comic!:)

I love comic shops and always will...I unfortunately can't get out to mine all the time though. The one I go to is in downtown Vancouver and nearly a good two hour bus and Sky Train ride. There is one closer to me but that's even a good hour away. I can remember spending literally hours in the one I used to frequent as a kid.
