I'm pretty certain the comics are set in the Earth-1 created by the Trinity comic that came out shortly before the announcement of the Johns and JMS comics.

That explains the shitty Legion noboot.

It certainly says of Levitz's influence at DC that he was able to wrestle control of the LOSH from Geoff Johns.

Levitz had a renown run on the Legion before though...this is second go around. I doubt he had to try very hard to convince the brass to give it to him again. He's known among Legion fans as one of the premier Legion writers. Also the Earth One continuity really is a separately established one, nothing to do with the Trinity continuity or any other.

Last's nights nightstand read before crashing after a busy and fun Saturday night was: I,Vampire.

I,Vampire #1 - I know nothing of what has come before because I haven't read Vertigo material in 10 yrs. I know this had a title prior but are they a '00 creation or been around longer? I'd hit wiki up but want to stay clear of past history. Going to go with this for a few more issues expectation free of who should show up, what should be happening etc.
So, Andrew and Mary have been around for 400 years, at least, it seems. Personal preference, I like it when the lead vamps have some centuries on them. Mary seems to the Drusilla of the pair while Andrew is more like Angel from what I can gather in one issue. I'm guessing the Vertigo title didn't bother with referencing the capes of the DCU? If so I like how Andrew is cautious about preservation of themselves and the actions Mary wants to enact. "How are you going to deal with a Superman, half a dozen Green Lanterns and Wonder Woman?", he tells Mary. So while the Dark corner of the DCU may have it's own thing going it still is tied in to the bigger picture. Good, Cool.

I liked it enough to sample issue #2 next month.
Did anyone else get this title? I thought I saw a few mention they would but haven't seen any other commentary on it in the thread just yet.

I, VAMPIRE wasn't a Vertigo title. It was a feature in the original HOUSE OF MYSTERY back in the early 80's. I believe it was written by J.M. DeMatteis and penciled by Tom Sutton.

I bought the revival (which is a reboot, not a continuation of the original) and liked a quite a bit. The DC Dark titles, for me, have been the big winners of the relaunch.

Re: multiple Earths--I still say there's nothing inherently confusing about a multiverse. I mean, Mirror Mirror is like the famousest Star Trek episode that's not a horrible, historically illiterate time travel story.*

But it was a single episode, not an ongoing theme of the series that threatened to collapse the show in on itself

I thought it was alright, but not as dense as say the rest of the Dark titles and I thought Mary was certainly more interesting than the protagonist.

Well, Earth One is already around (as in the Superman and upcoming Batman graphic novels). at?

Prior to COIE, "Earth One" referred to the Earth that DC's main comics line takes place in - the "Silver Age" Earth. AFAIK that was still true after COIE. The so-called "Earth One" graphic novels, OTOH, appear to take place in some very different out-of-continuity version of the world. So it's really arguable whether or not the term means anything these days.

Of course it is out of continuity. It takes place in a different universe to give the characters a fresh start. That was the whole point of the "Earth One" line. That doesn't mean, however, that it, like Batman Beyond and others of its ilk, isn't part of the DC multiverse.

After Infinite Crisis, the mainstream Earth was referred to as "New Earth" followed by 52 other Earths. It was stated at that time that "Earth One" has yet to be revealed. This was the case until the announcement of the "Earth One" graphic novels where all the stories taking place under that banner are within the same fictional world designed as "Earth One".

Unless things have changed which they haven't announced yet, those stories are still on "Earth One".

I take it you weren't a DS9 fan.

Not really, no, actually. I only saw a handful of eps. I am aware that DS9 did more with it and, from what I saw it was, in fact overdone.

It was also one universe. A single alternate universe is a lot easier to handle than have a bunch of popular characters on different earths. I don't find it especially confusing though. Through sci-fi and comic books, I've dealt with a lot of alternate universes. I much prefer everyone being on a single earth like Marvel, but I don't find it confusing.

I am not opposed to the JSA being on a separate earth, but what makes me apprehensive is that it's going to be a period piece without any of my favorite characters.

You don't find it confusing because it wasn't confusing, especially since there were only three versions which factored prominently in pre-crisis DC (4 if you count Earth S, but it didn't share any of the same characters as the others).
It was an elegant solution to the constant problem comics have of time marching on. DC made a jumble of it ever since Crisis, totally screwing up Huntress, Power Girl, and others whose existence depended on versions of heroes that had no longer ever existed.

House of Mystery from the 80's, thanks for that. I never knew of the characters/property till recently. Because of the relaunch I thought I'd try this. I love Blade, Buffy and Tru Blood and the one issue was interesting. At least this take. After the first arc I may try and find a TPB of their "old" DCU tales from a few years ago and compare the approach. I take it this type mainstream interaction within DCU is new for the property. Like Xanadu, Sahde the Changing Man and others for example.
I agree the DARK line has been most promising. Anyone not trying some titles from this area of the 52 relaunch really should.

I agree I found Mary the most interesting of the pair off the one issue. Still, she felt a tad Drusilla-esque and that's not bad either. Looking forward to getting more on Andrew next issue.

I'm not sure anyone raised the objection that it was confusing, did they? We're just discussing whether there's any evidence that the "multiverse" in the sense that it used to exist pre-Crisis is in any way resurrected as a result of the nuDC reboot.

^ Nope. I don't like it either. Apparently according to Batman Zee is unstable as well...whatever that means. I'm guessing she hasn't perfected her knowledge yet like she had in the previous continuity.

I wasn't replying to anyone in specific. But the general consensus (in the thread and outside it) has seemed to be (could be wrong) that multiverse = confusing.

Could be worse. That late 70s costume was pretty awful too.

Is that Zatanna in the center of the cover for #2? The outfit isn't too bad, but WTF is with the sleaves, that just looks weird. Was that supposed to be their way of keeping her fishnets and putting her in pants?
