Too bad about the news, but it's good that he'll be around in some capacity.
I'm glad, actually. If Snart goes back to living in the present, maybe he'll go back to being called Captain Cold instead of just Snart.
It sounds like they're doing the same thing with Miller as with Katie Cassidy - dead, but not really gone. For a show I don't really take seriously, I've grown to like the characters. I feel like it's going to have a different feel without Leonard Snart. But I'm very interested to see who the producers are going to add to the team next season (a male and a female).
I was surprised by the reveal that the Time Masters not only collaborated with Savage but also manipulated the team and the timeline using the Oculus, and that everything the team had been doing up to that point had been predetermined. As usual, just when our heroes were about to get massacred, help came at the very last minute when Jax showed up. This is an oft-recurring plot element on various shows and in films, but it gets very old and anticlimactic.
I thought Snart would freeze the failsafe mechanism as well. Hell, he even could've froze Mick's hand on the button and then broken it off. I wonder if he's really gone gone as he seems to be a fan favorite.
The most impressive thing about the story I thought is that they managed to integrate Rip's incompetence into the plot.

Shouldn't Rip be able to save his family now that the Occulus is destroyed? Without the Occulus allowing the Time Masters to see all of time and control it, I would think that it would be easier now for Rip to go back in time right before Savage kills them and take them on board the wave Rider. After all, didn't we learn in this episode that the idea that "time finds a way to make it happen" was really just Rip's rationalization for what was really the Time Masters using the Occulus?

Oculus is simply the Latin word for "eye," so it shows up in a lot of places. For instance, it's used in architecture to mean an oval or eye-shaped window.
That connection wasn't specifically drawn, but it's possible. Maybe the discrepancies between the time travel on The Flash and the time travel rules Rip has expounded on this show can be explained as the result of the Time Masters lying to Rip the whole time.

The connection was not explicitly stated but it certainly makes a lot of sense to me. We know the Time Masters were using the Occulus to manipulate time so it would make sense that those instances where events happened a certain way were the result of the Time Masters. In fact, it reminds me of how primitive tribes explain a thunderstorm as the gods being angry and then science provides a more accurate and correct explanation. Likewise, since Rip did not know about the Occulus, he assumed that events were happening a certain way because of an almost mystical "Time wanting it to happen" explanation but then we learn the truth that Time was simply being manipulating by the Time Masters.
