DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

I'm totally for making superhero stuff for kids. As long as people don't try to say that superhero stuff is only for kids or should only be made with that demographic in mind, I think there should be stuff for everyone. I have no interest in watching Superpets, but I hope its a good movie that its demographic really enjoys.

I don’t hope it’s a flop. A rising tide lifts all boats

Super Pets to me seems associated with the ideas that animation is just, or mostly, for kiddie comedy and/or that the DC heroes are so already done the only new thing you can do is wacky comedy.

"The only thing?" Huh? They're doing this and more serious live-action movies. They're aimed at different audiences, children and adults, so it's hardly a zero-sum choice between them.

I mean, it's not even from the same division of Warner Bros. The live-action movies are from DC Films, and League of Super Pets is from Warner Animation Group, the production company behind the Lego Movie franchise and the recent Space Jam sequel.

One could also suggest you look up the meaning of a 'tight coherent universe' since it's kind of the opposite of your description of the DCEU as a broad tapestry.

I never called it a "broad tapestry".

I used the term "tapestry" to define the MoS DCEU SCU as being an interwoven reality whose properties both exist on their own and function as a coherent and cohesive whole.

You said it wasn't narratively interwoven but it instead forms a tapestry that continues to expand. Whether you want to agree with the word 'broad' as a restatement of what you said or not, that is still not at all a legitimate description of something that is 'tight and coherent'.

You said it wasn't narratively interwoven but it instead forms a tapestry that continues to expand.

Wrong again. I said that the MoS DCEU SCU isn't as overtly narratively interwoven as the MCU, and my point in doing so was to compare and contrast the two properties in an effort to explain why the MoS DCEU SCU doesn't need to try and copy the MCU formula and why I personally believe that the MoS DCEU SCU represents the better and more satisfying approach.

And my point about the MoS DCEU SCU continuing to expand was a dig at the people who wrongly insist that Warner Bros. has moved away from doing a Shared Continuity Universe at all.

You tried to justify something being called tight by saying it was less interwoven. That is the opposite of tight. Twist around the issue however you like.

Actually, they did better than the MCU's first batch of films before "The Avengers". As for what others thought about Snyder's DC Comics movies, I honestly don't care how they felt. For me . . . personally, they are among my favorite comic book movies of all time. Especially "Batman v. Superman". And I'm someone who had not been a fan of Synder's before "Man of Steel".
Haha. No.

SDCC 2022 interview: Dwayne Johnson on Henry Cavill as Superman:

"He is a phenomenal Superman, and Henry Cavill is the Superman of this generation--with respect to other
Supermans in the past...and every time I see him, we have some Tequila, and I will say, 'That's Superman', these guys will attest to that. So, my longtime buisness partner, Danny Garcia--who you know--uh, whose sister, um, she has been a passionate advocate for Henry Cavill, and his career, for a very, very long time. So, the reason I say all of that is because you got a lot of people who advocate on Henry's behalf and root for him to win, and I do root for him to win, and at the end of the day, he is a phenomenal Superman."

High and deserved praise for Cavill and his interpretation of Supeman. This is not the firs time Johnson has talked up his wish for Cavill to return to the role, but this statement could not be more pointed about what he (and innumerable fans) would like to see in the continuing DCEU.

In other words, "Just need him to sign that darned contract for Black Adam 2."

That, and move on to Man of Steel 2. Johnson's unwavering enthusiasm for Cavill as Superman is great to hear, and obviously something Superman fans want to hear / what they want the new PTB at WB/Discovery to pay attention to
as they roll forward with DC movies.

Johnson--and just about anyone else--can imagine how incredible a Black Adam / Cavill Superman would look, not only in appearance, but in contrasting views for the world(s) they occupy.

I recall Dwayne saying when signed up to Black Adam that he and Superman had an amazing fight scene, which seemingly isn't happening in the filmed movie. So a fight with Cavill has been in his mind from day one.

Yeah. For whatever reason, there's no MoS 2. He's relegated to co-star status only, Dwayne Johnson's clout is our biggest hope of seeing him again in Black Adam 2. Otherwise we would have had a sequel years ago (franchises don't wait 9+ years for a proper sequel, especially since EVERYTHING is designed to be a trilogy now) instead of throwing their saviour Batman in there as a crutch.

Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam and Suicide Squad all get their sequels (and spin-offs!) but Superman can't carry his own film in that time? They just don't want it.

^ Cavill's Superman being a featured hero was sadly one of the casualties of Warner Bros. pivoting from trying to straightforwardly emulate Marvel Studios' approach to creating a Shared Continuity Universe.
